A micro-mechanical model for the limit analysis of running bond masonry: applications and validation for in- and out-of-plane loaded structures.

open access: yes, 2017
In this chapter, a simple micro-mechanical model for the homogenised limit analysis of masonry is reviewed. Assuming brickwork under plane stress conditions and adopting a polynomial expansion for the stress field, a linear optimization problem is ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Local-structure insight into the improved superconducting properties of Pb-substituted La(O, F)BiS2: a photoelectron holography study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Pb-substituted La(O, F)BiS2 (Pb-LaOFBiS2) exhibits improved superconducting properties and a resistivity anomaly around 100 K that is attributed to a structural transition.

Lithostratigraphic and structural reconstruction 1 of the Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag-Au Lemarchant volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit, Tally Pond group, central Newfoundland, Canada

open access: yes, 2017
The Lemarchant volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit (1.24 Mt grading at 0.58% Cu, 5.38% Zn, 1.19% Pb, 1.01 g/t Au, and 59.17 g/t Ag) is a bimodal-felsic VMS deposit hosted within the Late Cambrian (∼513–509 Ma) Tally Pond group of the Exploit ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Geodynamic evolution and genesis of the Cannington Broken Hill-type Ag-Pb-Zn deposit, Mount Isa Inlier, Queensland

open access: yes, 2002
The Cannington Ag-Pb-Zn deposit is located in the southeastern area of the Palaeo- to Mesoproterozoic Mount Ise lnlier, northwest Queensland. The orebody is totally concealed beneath 10- 60m of flat-lying, semi-lithified Cretaceous to Recent sediments of

Modeling masonry with limit analysis finite elements: review, applications and new directions

open access: yes, 2007
The mechanics of masonry structures have been for long underdeveloped in comparison with other fields of knowledge. Presently, non-linear analysis is a popular field in masonry research and homogenization techniques play a major role, despite the ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Culturally mixed co-branding product framing in China: the role of cultural sensitivity, product quality, and purchase probability

open access: yesHumanities & Social Sciences Communications
Chinese consumers have shown a strong preference for foreign brands (FBs) for many years. However, in recent years, rising patriotism has spurred Chinese consumers to source locally, indicating a shift in preference for patriotic brands (PBs).

The effect of oral zonisamide treatment on serum phenobarbital concentrations in epileptic dogs

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Zonisamide is used in dogs for the treatment of epileptic seizures. It is predominantly metabolised by CYP450 hepatic enzymes. When used concurrently with phenobarbital (PB), zonisamide clearance is increased and its elimination half-life decreases ...
