Structural priming and the representation of language [PDF]

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Sciences, 2017
AbstractStructural priming offers a powerful method for experimentally investigating the mental representation of linguistic structure. We clarify the nature of our proposal, justify the versatility of priming, consider alternative approaches, and discuss how our specific account can be extended to new questions as part of an interdisciplinary ...

Structural priming supports grammatical networks

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Sciences, 2017
AbstractAs Branigan & Pickering (B&P) argue, structural priming has important implications for the theory of language structure, but these implications go beyond those suggested. Priming implies a network structure, so the grammar must be a network and so must sentence structure.

Evidence for a constituent order boost in structural priming [PDF]

open access: yesGlossa Psycholinguistics
The study investigates the role of constituent order in structural priming. We report the results from a PO/DO priming experiment in German, in which we experimentally manipulated verb position in primes and targets.

Prime structures in a Morita context [PDF]

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Matemática Mexicana, 2020
In this paper, we study on the primeness and semiprimeness of a Morita context related to the rings and modules. Necessary and sufficient conditions are investigated for an ideal of a Morita context to be a prime ideal and a semiprime ideal. In particular, we determine the conditions under which a Morita context is prime and semiprime.

Structural priming, action planning, and grammar

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Sciences, 2017
AbstractStructural priming is poorly understood and cannot inform accounts of grammar for two reasons. First, those who view performance as grammar + processing will always be able to attribute psycholinguistic data to processing rather than grammar. Second, structural priming may be simply an example of hysteresis effects in general action planning ...

Structural priming in the grammatical network: A study of English argument structure constructions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Recent cognitive-linguistic approaches view grammar as a mental network of stored knowledge. The present study investigates to what extent psycholinguistic evidence from structural priming can inform one of the crucial linking mechanisms in this ...

Is structural priming between different languages a learning effect? Modelling priming as error-driven implicit learning

open access: yes, 2021
To test whether error-driven implicit learning can explain cross-language structural priming, we implemented three different models of bilingual sentence production: Spanish-English, verb-final Dutch-English, and verb-medial Dutch-English.

TelePriming sentence production in aphasia

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2023
BackgroundThe application of videoconferencing to the assessment and treatment of aphasia has been rapidly increasing; however, there is a need to develop treatments targeting sentence production in persons with aphasia (PWA) that can be delivered ...

Structural priming: A critical review. [PDF]

open access: yesPsychological Bulletin, 2008
Repetition is a central phenomenon of behavior, and researchers have made extensive use of it to illuminate psychological functioning. In the language sciences, a ubiquitous form of such repetition is structural priming, a tendency to repeat or better process a current sentence because of its structural similarity to a previously experienced ("prime ...
