Equivalence and simplification of multi-wheel loading on secondary member of vehicle deck

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectivesAs wheel loading on the vehicle decks of ro-ro ships may introduce difficulties for structural analysis due to the uncertainty of their quantities, ranges, and positions, it is necessary to study the equivalence and simplification of such loads.

How do Structural Formulas Embody the Theory of Organic Chemistry? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Organic chemistry provides fertile ground for scholars interested in understanding the role of non-linguistic representations in scientific thinking. In this discipline, it is plausible to think of textual representation as supplementing theories whose ...

Insights into a long life without cancer: The case of the bowhead whale

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Long‐lived, large‐bodied organisms have evolved powerful anticancer mechanisms that preserve cellular and tissue integrity across extended lifespans. A recent study by Firsanov et al. shows that greater genome stability is a key factor underlying the remarkable longevity and cancer resistance of one such species, the bowhead whale.

Design and Simulation of a Bio-Inspired Deployable Mechanism Achieved by Mimicking the Folding Pattern of Beetles’ Hind Wings

open access: yesBiomimetics
In this paper, a beetle with excellent flight ability and a large folding ratio of its hind wings is selected as the biomimetic design. We mimicked the geometric patterns formed during the folding process of the hind wings to construct a deployable ...

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Micropile-Raft Joint Jacking Technology for Rectifying Inclined Buildings Due to Uneven Settlement

open access: yesBuildings
To address the issue of structural tilting caused by uneven foundation settlement in soft soil areas, this study combined a specific engineering case to conduct numerical simulations of the rectification process for an inclined reinforced concrete ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
