An Evaluation of Structure Based Similarity Indexes for Collaborative Filtering
2010 Third International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, 2010Recommender systems are significant for web based e-commerce, and collaborative filtering(CF) algorithms are proved to be the most successful recommendation techniques. For CF algorithms, the similarity index is the heart, and many indexes have been proposed.

Mining, Indexing, and Similarity Search in Graphs and Complex Structures
22nd International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE'06), 2006Scalable methods for mining, indexing, and similarity search in graphs and other complex structures, such as trees, lattices, and networks, have become increasingly important in data mining and database management. This is because a large set of emerging applications need to handle new kinds of objects with complex structures, such as trees (e.g., XML ...

Hierarchical Indexing Structure for Efficient Similarity Search in Video Retrieval
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 2006With the rapid increase in both centralized video archives and distributed WWW video resources, content-based video retrieval is gaining its importance. To support such applications efficiently, content-based video indexing must be addressed. Typically, each video is represented by a sequence of frames.

Towards index-based similarity search for protein structure databases
Computational Systems Bioinformatics. CSB2003. Proceedings of the 2003 IEEE Bioinformatics Conference. CSB2003, 2004We propose two methods for finding similarities in protein structure databases. Our techniques extract feature vectors on triplets of SSEs (Secondary Structure Elements) of proteins. These feature vectors are then indexed using a multidimensional index structure.

Quaternion Structural Similarity: A New Quality Index for Color Images
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2012One of the most important issues for researchers developing image processing algorithms is image quality. Methodical quality evaluation, by showing images to several human observers, is slow, expensive, and highly subjective. On the other hand, a visual quality matrix (VQM) is a fast, cheap, and objective tool for evaluating image quality.

A New Local Self-Similarity Descriptor Based on Structural Similarity Index
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014The local self-similarity descriptor is a kind of important image or video local feature description method. It is often used for detection, identification and recognition. In this paper we propose a new local self-similarity descriptor based on structural similarity (SSIM) index.

An index structure for pattern similarity searching in DNA microarray data
Proceedings. IEEE Computer Society Bioinformatics Conference, 2003The DNA microarray technology is about to bring an explosion of gene expression data that may dwarf even the human sequencing projects. Researchers are motivated to identify genes whose expression levels rise and fall coherently under a set of experimental perturbances, that is, they exhibit fluctuation of a similar shape when conditions change.
