Towards index-based similarity search for protein structure databases

Computational Systems Bioinformatics. CSB2003. Proceedings of the 2003 IEEE Bioinformatics Conference. CSB2003, 2004
We propose two methods for finding similarities in protein structure databases. Our techniques extract feature vectors on triplets of SSEs (Secondary Structure Elements) of proteins. These feature vectors are then indexed using a multidimensional index structure.

Spherical Structural Similarity Index for Objective Omnidirectional Video Quality Assessment

IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2018
Objective quality assessment plays a crucial role in the evaluation and optimization processes of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, for which state-of-the-art objective quality evaluation metrics for omnidirectional video, i.e., 360 degree video, are ...

Latent Semantic Structure Indexing (LaSSI) for Defining Chemical Similarity

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2001
A novel method for computing chemical similarity from chemical substructure descriptors is described. This new method, called LaSSI, uses the singular value decomposition (SVD) of a chemical descriptor-molecule matrix to create a low-dimensional representation of the original descriptor space.

A New Local Self-Similarity Descriptor Based on Structural Similarity Index

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
The local self-similarity descriptor is a kind of important image or video local feature description method. It is often used for detection, identification and recognition. In this paper we propose a new local self-similarity descriptor based on structural similarity (SSIM) index.

Envelope parameter calculation of similarity indexing structure

1998
Similarity Indexing is very important for content-based retrieval on large multimedia databases, and the “tightness” of data set envelope is a factor that influences the performance of index. For equidistant envelope (bounding sphere), calculation of envelope is somewhat difficult because of the complexity of direct computation in high dimension space.

An empirical assessment of the structural similarity index

2009 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2009
This research evaluates the performance of the structural similarity index. An increasingly popular image quality metric, the structural similarity index is essentially a measure of the statistical correlation of two images. Its alleged strengths and advantages are widely acclaimed.

Improving the Visual Quality of Generative Adversarial Network (GAN)-Generated Images Using the Multi-Scale Structural Similarity Index

International Conference on Information Photonics, 2018
This paper presents a simple yet effective method to improve the visual quality of Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) generated images. In typical GAN architectures, the discriminator block is designed mainly to capture the class-specific content from ...

A comprehensive assessment of the structural similarity index

Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2009
In recent years the structural similarity index has become an accepted standard among image quality metrics. Made up of three components, this technique assesses the visual impact of changes in image luminance, contrast, and structure. Applications of the index include image enhancement, video quality monitoring, and image encoding.

Similar shape retrieval using a structural feature index

Information Systems, 1993
Abstract In image database systems, we often want to retrieve images whose contents satisfy certain conditions specified in an iconic query (i.e. queries that involve input images and conditions on them). One type of image data retrieval called ‘shape similarity-based retrieval” involves retrieval of images containing one or more shapes similar to ...
