Similarity Measurement on Human Mobility Data with Spatially Weighted Structural Similarity Index (SpSSIM)

Transactions in GIS, 2019
AbstractUnderstanding diverse characteristics of human mobility provides profound knowledge of urban dynamics and complexity. Human movements are recorded in a variety of data sources and each describes unique mobility characteristics. Revealing similarity and difference in mobility data sources facilitates grasping comprehensive human mobility ...

A NOVEL EAR DETECTION TECHNIQUE IN NOISY ENVIRONMENT USING MEAN STRUCTURE SIMILARITY INDEX MEASURE

International Journal of Engineering Applied Sciences and Technology, 2022
In this paper, an efficient automated ear detection technique that uses skin colour and templatebased methods is presented. There are two steps involved in the proposed ear detection technique. The first step in this technique is to remove non-skin pixels from the input image, which is called skin segmentation, and the second step is to detect the ear ...

l1 Compression of Image Sequences Using the Structural Similarity Index Measure

2009 Data Compression Conference, 2009
We consider lossy compression of image sequences using l1-compression with overcomplete dictionaries. As a fidelity measure for the reconstruction quality, we incorporate the recently proposed structural similarity index measure, and we show that this leads to problem formulations that are very similar to conventional l1 compression algorithms.

Quantitative measure for mosaics with dynamic elements using dense optical flow and the structure similarity index measure

2020 1st International Conference on Innovative Research in Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (IRASET), 2020
Image mosaicking is a combination of multiple algorithms that use a series of images or a video to obtain as a result a single image with a larger field of view. However, in some cases the input data contains dynamic elements that change their position from a frame to another and this results in the appearance of errors like ghosting and parallax ...

XSIM: A structural similarity index measure optimized for MRI QSM

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine
AbstractPurposeThe structural similarity index measure (SSIM) has become a popular quality metric to evaluate QSM in a way that is closer to human perception than RMS error (RMSE). However, SSIM may overpenalize errors in diamagnetic tissues and underpenalize them in paramagnetic tissues, resulting in biasing.

Face occlusion removal for face recognition using the related face by structural similarity index measure and principal component analysis

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2022
Facial occlusions like sunglasses, masks, caps etc. have severe consequences when reconstructing the partially occluded regions of a facial image. This paper proposes a novel hybrid machine learning approach for occlusion removal based on Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), called SSIM_PCA.

IQM2: new image quality measure based on steerable pyramid wavelet transform and structural similarity index

Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2014
In this paper, we present a new full-reference objective image quality measure—IQM2, based on structural similarity index and steerable pyramid wavelet transform. IQM2 is tested using different number of orientation kernels and seven subjective databases.

A harmonic means pooling strategy for structural similarity index measurement in image quality assessment

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2015
Structural similarity index measurement (SSIM) is one of the most well known method in full reference image quality assessment metrics (FR-IQA). In this paper, a novel pooling strategy based on harmonic mean is proposed to enhance the performance of SSIM.

Identification of liquid crystalline phases in 7O.O9 compound based on structural similarity index measure

Liquid Crystals, 2014
Textural analysis is done in the case of the thermotropic liquid crystal (LC), 4-heptyloxybenzylidene-4′-nonyloxyaniline, 7O.O9, using a polarising microscope attached with a hot stage with a high-resolution camera. Natural images are highly structured: their pixels exhibit strong dependencies and carry important information about the structure of the ...
