Materials for Marine Systems and Structures
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1991Abstract The treatise begins with an overview on the theme of materials performance in marine systems and structures. Types and design aspects of, and materials selection for, marine structures are outlined. The welding process, fatigue resistance of weldments, corrosion fatigue of weldments, and the seawater corrosion of reinforced ...

Localized Structures In Nonlinear Optical Systems And Materials
1996Diffractive effects in passive nonlinear optical resonators can lead to pattern forming bifurcations with subcritical character. When the pattern (in our case, a regular hexagonal lattice of intensity peaks) coexists with the homogeneous solution, localised structures can be excited, consisting in a single intensity peak in the transverse plane.

Modeling of oxidation of structural materials in LBE systems
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2008Abstract In recent years, liquid metal alloys have been examined in the light of various applications in technical systems the most famous example is the sodium cooled Fast Breeder Reactor. One major problem in non-isothermal heavy liquid metal systems lies in the corrosion of their structural components.

Composite materials, composite structures, composite systems
The Aeronautical Journal, 2011AbstractThe first part of the history of composites in aerospace emphasised materials with high specific strength and stiffness. This was followed by a quest for reliable manufacturing techniques that guaranteed sufficiently high fibre volume fractions in complex structural parts with reasonable cost.

Isotopic Structures in Solar System Materials
Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1978For quite some time one of the major boundary conditions in considera tions of the origin and evolution of the solar system has been the notion that at some stage in its history the solar system had a unique uniform composition and that every sample now accessible has evolved from this composition . This is a simple idea but a very powerful one.

Thermal Fatigue Testing System for Structural Materials
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1977Abstract A materials testing system has been developed for isothermal and differential thermal fatigue testing of metal specimens. A closed-loop thermal cycle is provided by an induction heater and a gas-liquid cooling manifold. Mechanical control of the specimen, as a direct function of temperature, is provided by a closed-loop ...

The Effects of Material Strength on Structural Performance of Different Structural Systems
