APPLICATION OF TOPOLOGICAL OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES TO STRUCTURAL CRASHWORTHINESS

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1994
Abstract The topological optimization of components to maximize crash energy absorption for a given volume is considered. The crash analysis is performed using a DYNA3D finite element analysis. The original solid elements are replaced by ones with holes, the hole size being characterized by a so-called density (measure of the reduced ...

A parameterized level set method for structural topology optimization using the approximate re-initialization scheme

Mechanics based design of structures and machines
This article proposes an efficient parameterized level set method (PLSM) for structural topology optimization design with minimum compliance as the objective function and volume fraction as the constraint condition.

Optimal Topologies of Structures

Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1989
Topological design, where the member connectivity is sought in addition to member sizing, is perhaps the most challenging and economically the most rewarding of the structural optimization tasks. Due to the basic difficulties involved in the solution process, various simplifications and approximations are often considered. The present review introduces

Deep super-resolution neural network for structural topology optimization

Engineering optimization (Print), 2020
A deep-learning approach is proposed to predict an optimized high-resolution structure with multi-boundary conditions. An enhanced deep super-resolution (SR) neural network and a convolutional neural network are constructed and trained to establish the ...

Size and Topology Optimization of Structures

2021
In the first part of this paper, the results of size optimization of truss are given. A minimum mass was required as an objective function. Four optimization methods were used in optimization: nonlinear programming, genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization and ant colony optimization. The obtained results are presented in the corresponding table.

Non-iterative structural topology optimization using deep learning

Comput. Aided Des., 2019
This paper presents a non-iterative topology optimizer for conductive heat transfer structures with the help of deep learning. An artificial neural network is trained to deal with the black-and-white pixel images and generate near-optimal structures. Our

Enhancing structural topology optimization

Engineering Computations, 2001
The goal of structural optimization is to find the best possible configuration that minimizes the objective function and satisfies a set of constraints. Here we present a method based on the evolutionary structural optimization method, where the quality of the solution is improved by avoiding the chain‐like sets of elements which are sources of ...

Explicit structural topology optimization under finite deformation via Moving Morphable Void (MMV) approach

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2019
In the present work, we intend to show how to perform structural topology optimization under finite deformation with the use of explicit geometry description. To this end, a Moving Morphable Void (MMV)-based approach is developed.
