Influence of particle parameters on deposition onto healthy and damaged human hair

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 47, Issue 1, Page 58-72, February 2025.
This study utilized streaming potential to explore particle affinity to hair, considering factors, such as zeta potential, size, and hydrophobicity. Smaller particles deposited better than bigger particles. Neutrally charged particles were found to deposit best on both healthy and damaged hair while positively charged particles deposited the fastest at

Hair fragility (trichorrhexis nodosa) in alopecic Pomeranian dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 64-73, February 2025.
Background – Alopecia associated with hair cycle arrest (HCA, Alopecia X) is well‐recognised in Pomeranian dogs. The authors are unaware of reports of hair fragility in affected dogs. Hypothesis/Objectives – Following the observation of frequent hair shaft abnormalities in alopecic Pomeranians, we hypothesised that hair fragility events would be more ...

Optical evaluation of internal damage to human hair based on second near‐infrared window polarization microscopy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 46, Issue 6, Page 850-864, December 2024.
A second near‐infrared (NIR) window microscope with circularly polarized optics noninvasively visualizes the internal state of hair and quantitatively evaluates hair damage caused by bleaching, permanent waveing, LiBr treatment, and heating. This method has high potential as a standard evaluation tool in the hair care field.

Taxonomy for the assessment of the subjective experience of curly hair manageability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 46, Issue 6, Page 1074-1087, December 2024.
An instrument for assessing subjectively curly hair manageability was designed and validated. The instrument is based on a taxonomy of hair goals, haircare perceptions and preferred practices, and on the degree of hair curvature. It can support the design and testing of products for hair with high curvature as well as the development of applications ...
