Despite being a widely used structural material, the deep knowledge on behaviour of structural concrete represents a continuous challenge to the technical community. The definition of local and global interactions between materials, the accurate definition of its geometry, supports and loads are basic requirements to establish adequate models to ...

Computer Graphics in Detailing Strut‐Tie Models
Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, 1992The paper describes the computer graphics program STAT, to aid the engineer in the detailing of concrete members using a rational design method that provides a clear understanding of the behavior of concrete structures and which is particularly useful in complex design situations. STAT is a special purpose computer graphic program designed for use with

Practical Design with Strut-and-Tie Models
Structures 2001, 2001Strut-and-tie models are an especially valuable tool for designing discontinuity regions (D-regions) of structures with irregular geometry where the flow of forces is not well known, like at points where high forces are applied to a beam, for shear walls with openings or for connections of members. The latter is especially important for highly stressed

Density-Based Optimization for Strut-Tie Modeling
2018 4th International Conference on Green Technology and Sustainable Development (GTSD), 2018Strut-and-tie modeling is an effective design method to deal with D-regions of reinforced concrete structures. This paper presents a topology optimization technique with the density filtering algorithm for automatically producing optimal strut-and-tie models. The algorithm utilizes the finite element method as a modeling and analytical tool.

Design of Pile Caps With Strut-and-Tie Models
"SP-209: ACI Fifth Int Conf Innovations in Design with Emphasis on Seismic, Wind and Environmental Loading, Quality Con", 2002The present ACI Building Code (ACI 318-99) procedure for shear design of pile caps is the same approach used for 2-way slabs. The procedure involves determining a section thickness such that the concrete shear stress is greater than the applied shear stress on the critical section.

A REFINED STRUT-TIE MODEL APPROACH AND ITS APPLICATION TOOL.
ICE Proceedings, Structures and Buildings, 2000This paper presents a refined strut–tie model approach and its application tool for the analysis and design of structural concrete. In this approach, non-linear techniques are incorporated in the development, analysis and verification processes of a strut–tie model. The additional positioning of concrete ties and steel struts at the locations of steel
