Numerical analyses of two-pile caps considering lateral friction between the piles and soil

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2021
: Pile caps are structural elements used to transfer loads from the superstructure to a group of piles. The design of caps is normally based on analytical formulations, considering the strut and tie method. Through the advance of computational technology,

Time‐Variant Seismic Fragility of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Piers Considering Degradation Phenomena

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aging and environmental exposure progressively deteriorate the physical and mechanical properties of construction materials, thereby affecting the safety and functionality of existing infrastructure. Corrosion of steel rebars in reinforced concrete structures is widely acknowledged as the most common and detrimental degradation phenomenon, as ...

Experimental results and limit load analysis by the strut-and-tie method (STM) in deep beams with notches and openings [PDF]

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais
This article presents experimental results of eight non-aligned, non-geometrically symmetrical deep beams with notches and openings. The variables considered in the study were the presence of web reinforcement, and the geometry of the deep beams.

Strut elaboration in strut-and-tie model

open access: yesConstructii: Journal of Civil Engineering Research, 2012
The Strut-and-Tie Model (STM) has been incorporated into the codes and standards because of its consistency and rationality since last decade. However, it has encountered few challenges whilst its implementation. The effective compressive strength of strut has been a complex issue among researchers since emergence of STM.

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.

Analysis and design of reinforced concrete deep beams using the stress fields method

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2017
Bernoulli's hypothesis facilitates the understanding of some structural elements. However, this hypothesis cannot be applied for some special regions, denominated `D regions´ or `Discontinuity regions´.

Experimental and design‐oriented research on fiber reinforced concrete segmental tunnel linings: A systematic review

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in precast tunnel segments is among the most established and representative applications of this material. Over the past two decades, numerous tunnel linings were constructed with partial or total substitution of conventional steel reinforcement by fibers, this yielding to quantifiable benefits in ...
