Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports
The larval chigger mite Apolonia tigipioensis Torres and Braga is an obligatory hypodermic parasite found in South America. Its parasitism can significantly affect the host's health, leading to nodular lesions that consequently result in the host's death.

AbstractA new species of mite from the family Analgidae, Megninia casuaricola sp. n., is described from the feathers of a southern cassowary, Casuarius casuarius (L.). Until now, cassowaries were among the few terrestrial birds thought to be without feather mites. The new species of mite is readily distinguished from other described species of Megninia

Journal of Morphology, 1982AbstractThe late embryonic and postembryonic genesis of the bursa cloacae (Fabricii) of struthioniforms and other birds is described and discussed. The bursa of ostrich and emu is a wall organ of the caudal cloacal chamber. The bursa of rhea is, like the bursa of Gallus, a cranial appendix of the proctodeum.
