Student Newspapers Show Opinion Article Political Bias

This analysis of political reporting and opinion pieces in student newspapers shows a significant bias against Republicans in opinion articles but greater objectivity in the news section. A pro-Democratic bias is apparent in sentences attributed as quotes in the opinion section.

Trend is toward Supervision of Student Newspapers

Based on a survey of 141 colleges and universities, including 34 with accredited schools of journalism, this study reveals some interesting developments. Mr. Bert is head of the journalism department and director of publicity at Superior (Wis.) State College. He did the survey as part of his master's thesis at Iowa.
