A Morphologic and Quantitative Study of Mechanoreceptors in the Remnant Stump of the Human Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

open access: yesArthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopy And Related, 2016
PURPOSE To investigate the morphology and quantity of mechanoreceptors in the remnant stumps of injured anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) and the association of the number of mechanoreceptors with the time from injury to surgery.

2D Skeletal Muscle Thin Film Actuators Enhance Efficiency of Biohybrid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D skeletal muscle thin film actuators generate millinewton‐scale forces and millimeter‐scale strokes while remaining functional for over 30 days. Their force density is 20‐fold higher than 3D skeletal muscle actuators, enabling multi‐fin robots with tunable speed and multidirectional steering.

Anisotropic Phonon Dynamics and Directional Transport in Actinide Van der Waals Semiconductor Uranium Triselenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
USe3 is introduced as an actinide van der Waals semiconductor that mirrors the quasi‐one‐dimensional physics of transition‐metal trichalcogenides. Polarization‐resolved Raman spectroscopy on exfoliated flakes maps strong in‐plane phonon anisotropy and strain‐tunable mode shifts.

Physicochemical and wound tensile-strength studies in the development of a cream formulation for application during the acute and post-acute rehabilitation phases following limb amputation

open access: yesMedičnì Perspektivi
The full-scale war in Ukraine has led to a humanitarian crisis and has placed a significant burden on the healthcare system, particularly in the fields of traumatology, rehabilitation, and medical support for disabled people. From 2022 to 2024, more than

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...

Graded Metallopolymer Structures with Shape‐Memory Abilities via DLP‐Based 3D‐Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the digital light processing (DLP) based 3D printing of graded metallopolymers featuring shape‐memory abilities. The permanent shape can be recovered in two distinct steps with excellent rates. The obtained graded prints range from simple rod‐like structures to complex hollow materials.

A Magneto‐Mechanically Activated Nerve Guidance Conduit Promotes Peripheral Nerve Regeneration via TIMP1‐Mediated Membrane Tension Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a magneto‐mechanical strategy that incorporates FP@MSCs into an aligned PCL/GelMA nerve guidance conduit. Magnetic stimulation increases membrane tension in FP@MSCs, triggering cytoskeletal remodeling, Schwann cell‐like differentiation, and TIMP1 secretion. TIMP1 activates ITGB1/CD63–FAK signaling in NE‐4C cells, increasing membrane
