Bronchial stump aspergillosis

Two cases of bronchial stump aspergillosis were diagnosed 5 and 6 years after pneumonectomy for lung cancer. In each case, the fungal mass was endoscopically removed using standard forceps. A recurrence of the fungal mass persisted until all visible protruding nylon threads in the airway lumen were destroyed with a Nd:YAG laser.

Refluxing Ureteral Stump

Two cases are presented of reflux into a residual ureter causing recurrent urinary tract infection. A voiding cysto-urethrogram should be included in the investigative routines when nephrectomy for unilateral chronic pyelonephritis is planned. If severe reflux is seen, the entire ureter should be removed along with the kidney.

Appendiceal stump abscess

Recurrence of traditionally treated appendicitis is rarely reported but known to surgeons and is probably underestimated. We described a case, illustrated by CT, of stump abscess 2 years after laparoscopic appendectomy. Sonography and CT are helpful in detecting pericecal changes, but diagnosis is confirmed by laparotomy.
