Fin healing and regeneration in sturgeon
Journal of Fish Biology, 2018Pectoral fin healing in fin spines and rays were examined in juvenile Atlantic sturgeon Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus following three different sampling techniques (n = 8–9 fish per treatment): entire leading fin spine removed, a 1–2 cm portion removed near the point of articulation, or a 1–2 cm portion removed from a secondary fin ray.

Chromosome banding in sturgeons
Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 1999Summary The article reviews the present knowledge of chromosome banding in sturgeons and summarizes recent findings obtained by both classical banding techniques (C-banding, fluorescent and silver staining) and molecular methods, such as fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH).

Conformation of sturgeon pituitary somatotropin
International Journal of Peptide and Protein Research, 1987Pituitary somatotropin (growth hormone) from the sturgeon (Acipenser guldenstadti) has been studied by zero‐order and second‐order absorption spectroscopy, as well as by circular dichroism. Difference absorption spectra have also been generated during proteolytic digestion of the hormone. The molar extinction coefficient of the native protein was found

A visual pigment of the sturgeon retina
Experientia, 1989The visual pigments of hybrid sturgeon (a cross between Acipenser ruthenus (male) and Huso huso (female) have been studied both by the methods of incomplete partial bleaching and HPLC analysis. On the basis of the results obtained the relationship between the structure of opsins and the spectral characteristics of visual pigments is discussed.

What Is the Future for the European Sturgeon?
2011The present book appears 20 years after the peer-reviewed proceedings of “Acipenser”, the first International Symposium on sturgeon (ISSI) (Williot 1991) where two preliminary investigations on the European sturgeon were presented (Castelnaud et al. 1991; Rochard et al. 1991).

Abstract Objective—To determine management, fish, and environmental risk factors for increased mortality and an increased proportion of runts for white sturgeon exposed to white sturgeon iridovirus (WSIV) and white sturgeon herpesvirus-2 (WSHV-2). Animals—White sturgeon in 57 tanks at 1 farm and observations made for fish at another

The mechanism of gastrulation in the white sturgeon
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1993AbstractGastrulation in the white sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, involves many of the same processes as in the amphibian Xenopus laevis, but the timing and relative importance of these processes are altered so that they function appropriately in a different type of egg.

Restoration of sturgeons: lessons from the Caspian Sea Sturgeon Ranching Programme
Fish and Fisheries, 2000Depletion of sturgeon stocks world‐wide has increased interest in aquaculture‐based restoration programmes. The Caspian Sea Sturgeon Ranching Programme (SRP) of the former Soviet Union represents a unique opportunity to evaluate expense, benefits and potential ecological and genetic effects of such restoration programmes.
