Mechanism of Fish Habitat Selection Based on Hydrodynamic Indicators Under Multiple Topographic Conditions for Ecological Restoration Requirements

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
Fish habitats are often characterized by diverse topographic conditions, which, under the influence of varying flow rates, create a wide range of flow patterns. As fish are direct perceivers of water flow, changes in hydrodynamic conditions significantly impact their habitat selection behavior.

Small‐Scale Stabilizing Effect of Asynchrony in Vital Rate Responses to Climate in an Imperiled Dune Thistle

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
We examined climate‐mediated portfolio effects within a population of the coastal dune endemic plant Cirsium pitcheri. We found that vital rates responded in opposite directions to climatic drivers, especially precipitation, in our five subpopulations that spanned the foredune to backdune.

Growth performance, carcass composition, and immunophysiological indices in juvenile great sturgeon (Huso huso) fed on commercial prebiotic, Immunoster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Growth performance, carcass composition, and immunophysiological indices in juvenile great sturgeon (Huso huso) fed on commercial prebiotic Immunoster (IS) were investigated. After a four-week acclimatization period, 270 great sturgeon juveniles weighing

Invasive predatory fish occupies highest trophic position leading to expansion of isotopic niches in a riverine food web

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract Invasive species are drivers of ecological change with the potential to reshape the structure and function of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The invasive flathead catfish (Pylodictis olivaris) is an opportunistic predator that has established a rapidly growing population in the Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania, USA, since they were first ...
