Feast or famine: How food deserts, wealth and greenspace correlate with coyote diets in Seattle, Washington

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 9, Page 3051-3065, September 2026.
Abstract Urban environments create unique challenges for wildlife, where dietary habits may reflect both ecological heterogeneity and societal disparities. In this study, we explored how social factors such as household income and human population density, and ecological factors such as tree canopy correlate with coyote (Canis latrans) diets in Seattle,

Night roosts of wintering Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) in Kharkiv City [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Скворцы (Sturnus vulgaris) образуют совместные коллективные ночевки с сорокой (Pica pica) в зимний период. В разные зимы 2003-2013 годов на многочисленную зимнюю ночевку собиралось до 3000 скворцов.

Spraying drones: efficacy of integrating an avian repellent with drone hazing to elicit blackbird flock dispersal and abandonment of sunflower fields

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 5, September 2026.
Multiple management strategies exist to combat bird damage to agriculture. We explored combining two tools, drones as frightening devices and an avian repellent, to assess effectiveness of an integrated method to deter large flocks on complex landscapes. We evaluated the ability of a spraying drone (DJI Agras MG‐1P) deploying Avian Control (i.e. active

Feathers and flu: identifying data gaps in avian influenza host dynamics to prioritize wildlife conservation Plumas y gripe: identificación de datos faltantes en la dinámica de hospedadores de la influenza aviar para priorizar la conservación de la vida silvestre

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, Volume 225, Issue 1, September 2026.
We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.

Solar energy development selectively filters avian taxonomic and functional diversity across a perennial agricultural landscape

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 9, September 2026.
Our study provides a pathway to leverage functional diversity to quantitatively characterize solar‐associated avian communities and the ecological mechanisms that shape them. Our results suggest that meeting biodiversity conservation goals while achieving solar energy targets requires ecologically informed siting and processes, particularly across ...

Chronotype and Seasonal Timing of Reproduction Are Related in a Female Songbird

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 9, Page 581-591, September 2026.
In this study we found evidence that seasonal timing of reproduction is related to timing of daily activity in great tits (Parus major). Female birds who began daily activity earlier relative to sunrise were also those that began laying eggs earlier in the season.
