Biofeedback and stuttering

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Communication Disorders, 1981
Electromyographic biofeedback was used to reduce tension and enhance control of the speech associated muscles, resulting in a reduction of the frequency of stuttering. Five sessions were conducted over a course of three weeks. A mild, moderate and severe stutterer were assessed.

Frequency of ZFHX3‐Mediated Spinocerebellar Ataxia 4 in a US Undiagnosed Ataxia Cohort

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Spinocerebellar ataxia 4 (SCA4) is a late‐onset dominant ataxia with neuropathy caused by exonic GGC repeat expansion in the ZFHX3 gene thought to originate from a Swedish founder event. The GC‐rich expansion is highly thermodynamically stable, posing challenges for standard clinical genetic testing methods.

Neurofilament-Lysosomal Genetic Intersections in the Cortical Network of Stuttering

open access: yesProgress in neurobiology, 2019
The neurobiological underpinnings of stuttering, a speech disorder characterized by disrupted speech fluency, remain unclear. While recent developments in the field have afforded researchers with the ability to pinpoint several genetic profiles ...

Using Deep Learning AI to Detect Riparian Vegetation Recovery Following a Major Flood in the Brisbane River

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Post‐flood riparian vegetation recovery demands significant attention; however, the complexity of traditional remote sensing methods often hinders environmental managers from implementing rapid vegetation monitoring. This paper developed a model using a Deep Learning Model within ArcGIS to classify and detect recovery of vegetation with high ...

Angry Place Claims and the Deceptive Female Body

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
In this article, we explore bodily challenges women can experience when making angry place claims in social interactions based on interviews with 47 women across two generations and Candace Clark's concepts of social place claims and micro‐hierarchy. Our empirical analysis explores situations where women experience that their bodies negatively affect ...

The Size, Demography, and Distribution of Cambodia's Largest Elephant Population Revealed Using Traditional Genetic Tools and a Novel SNP Panel

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Asian elephant population parameters were assessed using microsatellite, SNP, and sex determination DNA markers. This represents one of the first studies in mainland Asia to demonstrate that integrating microsatellite and SNP data enhances genotyping success from degraded fecal samples, increases the number of useable samples and markers, and ...
