Meteorological and air quality measurements in a city region with complex terrain: influence of meteorological phenomena on urban climate

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2023
On 8 and 9 July 2018 extensive observations were conducted under fair-weather conditions in the German city of Stuttgart and its surroundings. This intensive observation period, part of the four weeks Urban Climate Under Change (UC)2 campaign, intended ...

Kinetic Regimes of Hydrogen Absorption in Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge of the hydrogen incorporation mechanisms in thin layers in relation to the amount absorbed is essential to design coatings and devices compatible with hydrogen‐based technologies. A combination of simultaneous in situ methods gives detailed insight into the hydrogenation of a prototypical hydrogen absorber layer in a time‐dependent manner ...

Application of the Urban Climate Model PALM-4U to Investigate the Effects of the Diesel Traffic Ban on Air Quality in Stuttgart

open access: yesAtmosphere
The air pollution situation in the German city of Stuttgart is very important, as high pollutant concentrations are measured here compared to other German cities.

Mass Spectrometric Investigation of the Influence of Water Vapour and Oxygen on Gas‐Phase Reactions of Aluminium Acetylacetonate

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The gas‐phase decomposition of Al(acac)3 is investigated under inert, oxygen, and water‐containing conditions. Water is found to promote selective ligand removal and suppress hydrocarbon formation, while oxygen induces faster, less selective decomposition pathways.

Detection of structures in the horizontal wind field over complex terrain using coplanar Doppler lidar scans

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2020
Coplanar scans from three Doppler lidars are used to retrieve the horizontal wind field in a horizontal plane of about 5 km × 5 km in size above the city of Stuttgart in south-western Germany.

Dialectal variation in German 3-verb clusters : looking for the best analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
German dialects vary in which of the possible orders of the verbs in a 3-verb cluster they allow. In a still ongoing empirical investigation that I am undertaking together with Tanja Schmid, University of Stuttgart (Schmid and Vogel (2004)) we already ...

Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

Intermolecular Nuclear Spin Hyperpolarization Transfer via Cross‐Relaxation Triggers RASER of Solute Molecules

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Radiofrequency amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (RASER) of solutes was achieved via parahydrogen‐induced polarization (PHIP) and polarization transfer from the produced hyperpolarization donors to solutes via the intermolecular nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE).
