Advances in sparse dynamic scanning in spectromicroscopy through compressive sensing.
Scanning microscopies and spectroscopies like X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscopy (STXM), and Ptychography are of very high scientific importance as they can be employed in several research fields.

The influence of physical state on shikimic acid ozonolysis: a case for in situ microspectroscopy [PDF]
Atmospheric soluble organic aerosol material can become solid or semi-solid. Due to increasing viscosity and decreasing diffusivity, this can impact important processes such as gas uptake and reactivity within aerosols containing such substances ...

Quantitative capabilities of STXM to measure spatially resolved organic volume fractions of mixed organic ∕ inorganic particles [PDF]
Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy coupled with near-edge X-ray absorption and fine structure (STXM-NEXAFS) spectroscopy can be used to characterize the morphology and composition of aerosol particles.

Research on automobile exhaust particles by STXM and NEXAFS
In order to understand the structures of automobile exhaust particles and the components of nitrogen inside them, automobile exhaust particles from Santana 3000 and Golcars are investigated with scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) and the near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra.

Extracting the Dynamic Magnetic Contrast in Time-Resolved X-Ray Transmission Microscopy
Using a time-resolved detection scheme in scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM), we measured element resolved ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) at microwave frequencies up to 10 GHz and a spatial resolution down to 20 nm at two different synchrotrons.

Image reconstruction using a configurable detector in STXM
The use of a fast-readout CCD x-ray detector in a scanning transmission x-ray microscope (STXM) allows a range of simultaneous imaging modes to be realised. The CCD records the full 2?D distribution of x-rays transmitted by the sample for every pixel in the raster scan that generates the STXM image, potentially generating large volumes of data.

Spectro-microscopic measurements of carbonaceous aerosol aging in Central California [PDF]
Carbonaceous aerosols are responsible for large uncertainties in climate models, degraded visibility, and adverse health effects. The Carbonaceous Aerosols and Radiative Effects Study (CARES) was designed to study carbonaceous aerosols in the natural ...

Xenon Plasma Focused Ion Beam Milling for Obtaining Soft X-ray Transparent Samples
We employ xenon (Xe) plasma focused ion beam (PFIB) milling to obtain soft X-ray transparent windows out of bulk samples. The use of a Xe PFIB allows for the milling of thin windows (several 100 nm thick) with areas of the order of 100 µm × 100 µm into ...
