Hydrogel Confinement Strategies for 3D Cell Culture in Microfluidic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hydrogel confinement structures are key to organizing 3D cell cultures in microfluidic devices. This review classifies five structural strategies (micropillar, phaseguide, porous membrane, stepped‐height, and support‐free) and examines their trade‐offs alongside fabrication methods.

Ultra‐Thin Soft Pneumatic Actuation for Minimally Invasive Neural Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Parylene C is a common polymer in bioelectronics, favored for its biological and chemical inertness. However, this makes bonding layers of Parylene C together very challenging. Here it is a laser to selectively weld layers of Parylene C to create high‐pressure fluidic actuation devices.

Elimination of Necking and Aspect Ratio Dependence in Uniaxial Actuators by Continuous Fiber Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A novel carbon fiber reinforcement for dielectric elastomer actuators enhances actuation force while decoupling electromechanical performance from the actuator's aspect ratio. Unlike conventional fiber reinforcements, it enables a uniform planar stretch state along the entire actuator.

Keyword transformations: on the border of stylistics and language testing

open access: yesEtudes de stylistique anglaise
Finding different ways of saying the same thing is a well-known exercise in the history of rhetoric, going back at least as far as Erasmus’ De Copia (1512). In the Reading and Use of English paper of the B2, C1, and C2 Cambridge English examinations, keyword transformations require test takers to rewrite sentences by using a keyword provided to them ...

From Rigid to Soft Robotic Approaches for Neuroendoscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robotic assistance has had minimal impact on deep intraventricular surgeries, where small‐scale, precision, and reduced invasiveness can contribute to improved patient outcomes. Emerging technologies in rigid, soft, and hybrid robotics are reviewed to identify the most promising mechanisms for deep brain navigation in addition to an attempt to identify
