New architecture for sub-band coding [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989
Most sub-band coders (SBC) have been realized by quadrature-mirror filter (QMF) with frequency shift and low-pass filter (LPF). However, the QMF method has the following problems: (i) Band separation is limited to the power of 2; (ii) arithmetic errors are accumulated because of the cascade connection of QMF; and (iii) it is necessary to adjust the ...

Perceptual Vibration Hashing by Sub-Band Coding: An Edge Computing Method for Condition Monitoring [PDF]

open access: goldIEEE Access, 2019
High data throughput during real-time vibration monitoring can easily lead to network congestion, insufficient data storage space, heavy computing burden, and high communication costs.

Three dimensional sub-band coding of video [PDF]

open access: goldICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
A novel coding scheme has been developed which is based on multidimensional subband coding. The digital video signal is filtered and sub-sampled in all three dimensions (temporally, horizontally and vertically) to yield the subbands, from which the input signal can be losslessly reconstructed in the absence of coding loss.

Multi-dimensional sub-band coding: Some theory and algorithms [PDF]

open access: goldSignal Processing, 1984
A system is proposed in order to split a multi-dimensional signal into N sub-bands, which are then subsampled by N. Subsequent upsampling and filtering allows the recovery of the original signal. Main features are a good bandpass characteristic of the channels, automatic aliasing cancellation and spectral invariance of the overall system.

Extension of finite length signals for sub-band coding

open access: greenSignal Processing, 1989
Some problems associated with sub-band coding of images are investigated. The filtering operations needed for splitting an input into different frequency bands, as well as their reconstruction, require an extension beyond the length of the finite signal.

Error Resilient Speech Coding Using Sub-band Hilbert Envelopes [PDF]

open access: gold, 2009
Frequency Domain Linear Prediction (FDLP) represents a technique for auto-regressive modelling of Hilbert envelopes of a signal. In this paper, we propose a speech coding technique that uses FDLP in Quadrature Mirror Filter (QMF) sub-bands of short segments of the speech signal (25 ms).

Perceptually Motivated Sub-band Decomposition for FDLP Audio Coding [PDF]

open access: gold, 2008
This paper describes employment of non-uniform QMF decomposition to increase the efficiency of a generic wide-band audio coding system based on Frequency Domain Linear Prediction (FDLP). The base line FDLP codec, operating at high bit-rates (~136 kbps), exploits a uniform QMF decomposition into 64 sub-bands followed by sub-band processing based on FDLP.
