Image sub-band coding with inter-band predictions

Proceedings of TENCON '93. IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Computers, Communications and Automation, 2002
Subband coding (SBC) method has become an attractive strategy on image coding because it allows more flexibility in the design of coding schemes. A method which considers the intra-band correlation properties in the design of an optimal quadrature mirror filters (QMFs) bank tree is presented.

Sub-band image coding with incorporating HVS model

[1992] Proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2003
This paper presents a subband image coding method with an incorporating HVS model. In this method, an image to be coded is first divided into several frequency bands by a 2D subband analysis system, and then different bands are transformed into the spectral domain through the DCT. HVS models are used to weight the transformed coefficients in accordance

Differential sub-band coding of video signals

International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
The author presents a method for subband coding of video signals. In this method, the difference between the input signal and the motion-compensated interframe prediction signal is decomposed into several narrow bands using separable two-dimensional quadrature mirror filtering (QMF).

An optimal bit allocation algorithm for sub-band coding

ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
An optimal bit allocation algorithm is presented that is suitable for all practical situations. Each source to be coded is assumed to have its own set of admissible quantizers (which can be either scalar or vector quantizers) which do not need to have integer bit rates.

Sub-band coding with adaptive bit allocation

Signal Processing, 1980
Abstract The paper presents an efficient method for speech encoding which is based on the well known idea of sub-band coding. Typically, the frequency range from 0.3 kc/s to 3.4 kc/s is split into four sub-bands, and the sub-band signals are encoded separately with different accuracies by means of familiar PCM techniques.

Sub-band coding with improved permutation codes for high fidelity image compression

[Proceedings] ICASSP 91: 1991 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1991
Sub-band image coding is considered to be a promising technique for high fidelity compression of high resolution images. In the traditional sub-band image coding algorithm where a scalar quantizer is used, high frequency sub-band signals are usually discarded, which incurs rather noticeable degradation of reconstruction quality.

Sub-band ADPCM coding for high quality audio signals

ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
Some investigations are presented on subband ADPCM (adaptive differential pulse-code modulation) algorithms, for the coding of medium or high quality sound signals. This technique combines subband coding with a low number of subbands and ADPCM in each subband. Noise shaping is introduced for substantially improving the subjective quality.

Digital Signal Processor: Sub-Band Coding

Bell System Technical Journal, 1981
This paper explores the use of the Bell Laboratories digital signal processing integrated circuit for digitally encoding speech or audio signals based on the sub-band coding technique. Sub-band coding represents a next level in algorithmic complexity over that of adaptive differential pulse-code modulation, discussed in a companion paper, and it has a ...

Sub-band coding of images using predictive vector quantization

ICASSP '87. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
This paper presents a form of sub-band coding of images in which the advantages of both DPCM and vector quantization are combined in a single subband coder. A 16 band decomposition of the image frequency band is employed using a tree structure of two-dimensional separable quadrature mirror filters and decimators.

Coded sub band replacement DWT based space image compression

2016 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2016
One of the application in satellite communication is to capture and transmit high quality and hyper-spectral images back to the ground station. These images require very high bandwidth, more transmission time and large storage memory. Moreover, the link used for communication is susceptible to various noises. Hence, need for image compression with high
