Australian Sub-bottom Profiling Guidelines

2023
The Australian Sub-bottom Profiling Guidelines were developed by the AusSeabed community to establish a standardised approach to the acquisition of sub-bottom profiler data in an Australian context. They complement a suite of ocean best practice guidelines developed by the AusSeabed community including the Australian Multibeam Guidelines (eCat Record ...

Schur Algorithm for Sub-bottom Profiling

Journal of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers, 2013
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for estimating media characteristics of sea water and subbottom multi-layers. The proposed algorithm for estimating reflection coefficients, uses a transmitted signal and reflected signal obtained from multiple layers of various shape and structure, and the algorithm is called Schur algorithm.

High Resolution Near Sub-Bottom Profiling

Offshore Technology Conference, 1970
ABSTRACT The wide dynamic range of acoustic signals reflected from the various ocean bottoms, coupled with reverberations and a noisy environment, make the problem of receiving, processing, and displaying these signals difficult.

Sub-bottom profiling with hydroshock impulse source

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1976
Hydroshock is a form of impulse source in which a controlled, imploding flow is converted to an acoustic impulse without after shot clutter. Hydroshock III was used recently in an experiment with a short hydrophone line array to examine the sub-bottom returns from Seneca Lake.

Soil base profiling/sub-bottom profiling by echo signal processing

2018 IEEE 14th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA), 2018
Electromagnetic waves, ultrasonic waves, seismic waves can be used for Soil base profiling or soil sensing. When the soil is illuminated using these waves a return signal or echo is received. The received echo arises due to reflection, attenuation and scattering of transmitted waves from the soil structure.

Multibeam sub-bottom profiler: exploitation of experimental data

Europe Oceans 2005, 2005
The use of a SBP 120 multibeam sub-bottom profiler (Kongsberg Maritime) during recent sea trials enabled us to acquire data in various sedimentary areas and to test the influence of different acquisition parameters. In the first section of this article, we describe the SBP 120 main features.

Investigations of hydroacoustic parametric sub-bottom profiler characteristics

Oceans '99. MTS/IEEE. Riding the Crest into the 21st Century. Conference and Exhibition. Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.99CH37008), 2003
Summary form only given. The problem of sub-bottom profiling with large accuracy is urgent and reasonably difficult. The purpose demands the use of high directivity low-frequency wide band acoustic source. The most expedient type of source is a parametric acoustic array.

High Resolution Seabed Sub-Bottom Profiler for AUV

Volume 6: Ocean Engineering, 2011
Memorial University of Newfoundland (Memorial) is undertaking a novel and exciting area of interdisciplinary research and development related to Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV). AUVs are an untethered, unmanned technology that enables a broad array of research, especially in hazardous underwater environments, that cannot be achieved by other means.

Side-scan Sonar and Sub-bottom Profiler Surveying

2020
Side-scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler are two types of equipment commonly used in submarine geomorphological exploration. Side-scan sonar is applied to detect micro-topography and surface features of the seafloor, whereas a sub-bottom profiler is used to detect the stratigraphic structure beneath the seafloor as well as submarine features buried ...
