FT4-to-FT3 ratio is a novel prognostic marker in subacute combined spinal cord degeneration patients

open access: yesTranslational Neuroscience
The FT4-to-FT3 ratio (FFR) variations in patients with subacute combined spinal cord degeneration (SCSD) as a potentially useful prognostic indicator are still unknown.

Photobiomodulation Enhances Tendon Regeneration: A Systematic Review and Meta‐analysis of Preclinical Studies

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, Volume 8, Issue 4, August 2026.
Purpose To evaluate the preclinical evidence supporting the efficacy of photobiomodulation therapies in tendon regeneration. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar to identify in vivo animal studies evaluating photobiomodulation therapies for tendon healing.

Laughing gas abuse causing subacute combined spinal cord degeneration with psychiatric manifestations [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Neurology
Background. Nitrous oxide, a nonirritating gas commonly used as an anesthetic, is increasingly abused by the young population for its euphoric effects due to its seemingly harmless nature.

MicroRNAs in Spinal Cord Injury: Molecular and Translational Insights

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) modulate secondary injury cascades following spinal cord injury (SCI), including inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and demyelination. Key miRNAs such as miR‐21, miR‐124, miR‐219, and miR‐223 exert neuroprotective effects by regulating astrocytic response, axon regeneration, and remyelination.

Lhermitte's sign in subacute combined degeneration of the cord [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 1973
Lhermitte's sign is a common early symptom of subacute combined degeneration of the cord occurring in 11 out of 44 patients admitted to the National Hospitals for Nervous Diseases during the decade 1962-71 with this diagnosis. Two patients, in both of whom it was the presenting complaint, are described in detail.

The Neuroprotective Potentials of Dual GIP/GLP1‐RA (Tirzepatide): From Preclinical Experiments to Clinical Trials: A Scoping Review

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
The graphical abstract summarizes the current evidence on the potential neuroprotective effects of tirzepatide (TZP), a dual GIP/GLP‐1 receptor agonist, across mechanistic, preclinical, and clinical domains. Mechanistically, TZP is proposed to exert direct neural effects, preserve mitochondrial function, reduce apoptosis, oxidative stress, and ...

SUBACUTE COMBINED CORD DEGENERATION, WITH REPORT OF CASES. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1908
Although writers have previously reported cases that appear to belong to this disease, our first definite knowledge of it began in 1887, when Lichtheim1reported three cases of pernicious anemia with symptoms indicating spinal cord involvement. His pupil, Minnich,2followed with a series of cases, in some of which he was able to demonstrate the cord ...

A Case Report of Short‐Coupled Ventricular Fibrillation Unmasked During Post‐Infarction Inflammatory Remodeling

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This case illustrates the rare clinical emergence of the short‐coupled ventricular fibrillation (SC‐VF) phenotype during the subacute remodeling phase following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Although SC‐VF is traditionally characterized as an idiopathic syndrome occurring in structurally normal hearts, we report the case of a 49‐year‐old ...

Vitamin B12 Deficiency Without Anemia Presenting With Delayed Orthostatic Hypotension in an Adolescent: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The orthostatic hypotension caused by vitamin B12 deficiency is extremely rare in young individuals. The serum vitamin B12 and anti‐intrinsic factor antibody levels of young patients with orthostatic hypotension should be evaluated regardless of the presence of anemia, and vitamin B12 administration should be promptly initiated.

Paeonol as a Multi‐Target Therapy for Neurological Disorders: Mechanistic Insights Into Neuroprotection

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Paeonol (PNL) exhibits neuroprotective effects by reducing oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and apoptosis. It enhances antioxidant defenses (SOD and GSH), inhibits pro‐inflammatory pathways (NF‐κB and TLR4), and modulates apoptotic proteins (Bcl‐2 and Bax).
