Epidemic of Subclinical Infection with Cytomegalovirus in an Infant Home

The epidemic of cytomegalovirus (CMV) occurred among forty-nine infants residing in an infant home between October and November of 1968. The incidence of infants having complement-fixing antibody to CMV increased from 23.7% to 91.8% during this period. CMV was isolated from saliva of 81% of the infants.
