A correlation to predict chf in subcooled flow boiling

International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1995
The present paper provides a discussion of the thermal-hydraulics requirements in fusion reactor components, with particular reference to the removal of high heat flux from plasma facing components and the critical heat flux (CHF) limit. Available experimental data on CHF of subcooled flow boiling in water, in the ranges of interest of fusion reactors ...

Critical heat flowrates in subcooled flow boiling

Thermal Engineering, 2010
Matters related to calculating critical heat flowrates during boiling in a highly subcooled flow are considered. Existing data on heat transfer for swirl flow with one-sided heating are analyzed, and a formula for calculating critical heat flowrates is proposed. The conditions under which the thermodynamic limit of boiling is reached are analyzed.

Calcium sulphate scale formation during subcooled flow boiling

Chemical Engineering Science, 1997
Fouling of heat transfer surfaces during subcooled flow boiling is a frequent engineering problem in process industries. Nevertheless, only few experimental and theoretical investigations on this subject can be found in the literature. In this investigation the effect of operating parameters on the deposition of calcium sulphate on heat transfer ...

Changes of enthalpy slope in subcooled flow boiling

Heat and Mass Transfer, 2005
Void fraction data in subcooled flow boiling of water at low pressure measured by General Electric in the 1960s are analyzed following the classical model of Griffith et al. (in Proceedings of ASME-AIChE heat transfer conference, #58-HT-19, 1958). In addition, a new proposal for analyzing one-dimensional steady flow boiling is used.

Visual Investigation of Boiling Phenomena in CHF Subcooled Flow Boiling

1999
The present work collects the main results obtained in an experimental research carried out at the laboratories of the National Institute of Thermal-Fluid Dynamics of ENEA. A photographic study of the burnout in highly subcooled flow boiling has been performed, in order to get a detailed description of the flow pattern under different conditions of ...

Gravity effects on subcooled flow boiling heat transfer

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2019
Abstract Subcooled flow boiling measurements using HFE-7000 were obtained in a vertical 6 mm ID sapphire tube during upward and downward flow at various gravity levels including hypergravity and microgravity. Temperature sensitive paint (TSP) applied to the inside of the tube was used to measure time and space resolved temperature and heat transfer ...

High heat flux burnout in subcooled flow boiling

Journal of Thermal Science, 1995
The paper reports the results of an experimental research carried out at the Heat Transfer Division of the Energy Department, C.R. Casaccia, on the thermal hydraulic characterization of subcooled flow boiling CHF under typical conditions of thermonuclear fusion reactors, i.e. high liquid velocity and subcooling.
