Analysis of isochoric subcooling

Cryobiology, 2006
Because ice-I is less dense than water, the formation of an ice nucleus in an isochoric (constant volume) chamber will cause an increase in pressure. This analysis shows that the energy required to overcome such a pressure increase makes homogeneous ice nucleation thermodynamically improbable in an isochoric system at temperatures above -109 degrees C.

Subcooling in wood of citrus seedlings

Cryobiology, 1969
Summary Differences in subcooling were apparent among unhardened seedlings of citrus varieties, but differences were not a satisfactory index of varietal differences in cold hardiness ratings.

Subcooled Boiling of Surfactant Solutions

Heat Transfer: Volume 4, 2000
Abstract During subcooled boiling of pure water and water with cationic surfactants, the motion of bubbles and the temperature of the heated surface were recorded by both a high-speed video camera and an infrared radiometer. The results show that the bubble behavior and the heat transfer mechanism for the surfactant are quite different ...

Experimental evaluation of the onset of subcooled flow boiling at high liquid velocity and subcooling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1997
The knowledge of the onset of subcooled boiling in water forced convective flow at high liquid velocity and subcooling is of importance in thermal hydraulic studies of high heat flux components in fusion reactors. The present paper reports the results of an experimental research on the onset of subcooled boiling in water forced convective flow.

On Subcool Control in the SAGD Producers—Part III: Efficiency of Subcool Trapping in the Nsolv Process

SPE Journal, 2018
Summary Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) is currently the preferred thermal-recovery method used to produce bitumen from Athabasca deposits in Alberta, Canada. SAGD is, however, an energy-intensive process with large amounts of greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions and required water treatment.

CFD-modelling of subcooled boiling

Kerntechnik, 2013
Abstract In this paper new developments in the framework of a common project simulating subcooled boiling are described. The computational model used combines the Euler/Euler two-phase flow description with heat flux partitioning. Main achievements were a comprehensive study of the boiling process itself and a better description of the ...

Visualization of boiling of subcooled water

High Temperature, 2011
Data of high-speed photography of boiling of subcooled water on stainless steel foil at atmospheric pressure, heat flowrate relative to 6 MW/m2, subcooling of up to the saturation temperature of 45–75°C, and water flow velocities of 0.4 m/s are presented.

Bubble dynamics and induced flow in a subcooled nucleate pool boiling with varying subcooled temperature

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2022
Abstract We experimentally investigate the dynamics of a vapor bubble and subsequent flow induced in a bulk liquid, generated by a subcooled nucleate pool boiling. We focus on the dependency of bubble lifetime (e.g., growth, departure, rise and collapse) on the subcooled temperature. While varying the subcooled temperature ( Δ T s u b

Solidification of the entrance to a subcooled tube

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1990
The Galerkin finite element technique has been applied to solve the equations of motion and energy transport for laminar flow in tubes where the tube wall is at a temperature below the melting point of the liquid. The axial variation in the thickness of the crust formed on the tube wall and the pressure drop in the tube are presented for a range of the
