Subcritical crack propagation in glacial quarrying during subglacial water pressure variation
Glacial quarrying stems from the fracturing of subglacial bedrock. Much evidence shows that subcritical crack propagation of bedrock is closely related to subglacial water pressure fluctuations.

Critical and subcritical ischaemia
To stratify leg ischaemia into high and low risk groups with respect to outcome. An evaluation of 20 recent publications, reporting the results of 6118 patients with critical ischaemia. Low and high risk patient groups are identified by the definition of critical ischaemia.

In this study, the performance of a helical coil heat exchanger operating at subcritical and supercritical conditions is analysed. The counter-current heat exchanger was specially designed to operate at a maximal pressure and temperature of 42 bar and ...

Valorization of Cork Using Subcritical Water [PDF]
Granulated cork was submitted to subcritical water extraction/hydrolysis in a semi-continuous reactor at temperatures in the range of 120–200 °C and with a constant pressure of 100 bar. The influence of temperature on the composition of the cork extracts obtained was assessed—namely, their content of carbohydrates and phenolics.

Anomalous scaling behavior in Takens-Bogdanov bifurcations
A general algorithm is presented for estimating the nonlinear instability threshold, $\sigma_c$, for subcritical transitions in systems where the linearized dynamics is significantly non-normal (i.e. subcritical bifurcations of {\em Takens-Bogdanov} type)

Subcritical Instabilities in Neutral Fluids and Plasmas
In neutral fluids and plasmas, the analysis of perturbations often starts with an inventory of linearly unstable modes. Then, the nonlinear steady-state is analyzed or predicted based on these linear modes. A crude analogy would be to base the study of a

Screening of Coulomb Impurities in Graphene
We calculate exactly the vacuum polarization charge density in the field of a subcritical Coulomb impurity, $Z|e|/r$, in graphene. Our analysis is based on the exact electron Green's function, obtained by using the operator method, and leads to results ...

Quantum Subcritical Bubbles [PDF]
We quantize subcritical bubbles which are formed in the weakly first order phase transition. We find that the typical size of the thermal fluctuation reduces in the quantum-statistical physics. We estimate the typical size and the amplitude of thermal fluctuations near the critical temperature in the electroweak phase transition using quantum ...
