Temperature fluctuations controlled episodic rockfall activity in the Rwenzori Mountains (Uganda) during the Holocene

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 8, August 2026.
The alignment between rockfall deposit surface exposure 10Be ages and Holocene temperature records suggests that major rockfall events occurred episodically in response to climatic fluctuations. We conclude that temperature and its evolution enabled mechanical, chemical or bio‐chemical enhancement of fracture progression.

Raman Line Scan Analyses and a New Hypothesis for the Formation of Anatase‐Hosting Microbialites: Study of the Stromatolites From Saint‐Jean‐de‐la‐Rivière, Cotentin, France

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 57, Issue 8, Page 1463-1480, August 2026.
Micrometer analysis of millimeter lines of Raman spectra concludes in the association of anatase and graphitized organic matter (graphogen). The photosynthetic microorganisms at the origin of the microbialites produce O2, which is transformed by TiO2 into reactive species that, in turn, decompose the organic matter of the microorganisms. Impacts of Particle Density and Relative Submergence on the Sediment Entrainment Process: An Experimental Study Using a Smart Sediment Particle

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Quantifying the hydrodynamic forcing associated with sediment entrainment at the threshold of motion remains a fundamental challenge because bed–particle contact reactions are rarely measured concurrently. We conducted controlled flume experiments using a freely moving Smart Sediment Particle equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to

A review of the supercritical state of eruption‐fed volcanic density currents in subaerial and subaqueous settings

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 1331-1351, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Subaerial Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDCs) and Subaqueous Eruption‐Fed Density Currents (SEFDCs) produced during volcanic eruptions can present major hazards to surrounding communities and ecosystems. The bedforms deposited by these volcanic density currents can provide insights into the nature of transport and depositional processes, which

Moderate‐Temperature Hydrothermal Treatment Removes Detectable DNA and Antibiotic Resistance Genes From Municipal Sludge While Preserving Resource Value

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 484-494, August 2026.
This graphical abstract shows the overall study design where dewatered wastewater sludge samples were collected and subjected to a range of HT temperatures. Measurement of nucleic acid concentration and antibiotic resistance gene profiles across temperatures showed that HT at moderate temperatures offers sustainable, scalable sludge sanitation and ARG ...
