Resolving the pulsations of subdwarf B stars: HS 0039+4302, HS 0444+0458, and an examination of the group properties of resolved pulsators [PDF]

open access: bronze, 2007
We continue our program of single-site observations of pulsating subdwarf B (sdB) stars and present the results of extensive time series photometry of HS 0039+4302 and HS 0444+0458. Both were observed at MDM Observatory during the fall of 2005. We extend

Ages of White Dwarf-Red Subdwarf Systems [PDF]

open access: bronze, 2005
We provide the first age estimates for two recently discovered white dwarf-red subdwarf systems, LHS 193AB and LHS 300AB. These unusual systems provide a new opportunity for linking the reliable age estimates for the white dwarfs to the (measurable ...

He-rich Hot Subdwarf Stars Observed in Gaia DR3 and LAMOST DR7: Carbon and Nitrogen Abundances and Kinematics [PDF]

open access: goldThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We conducted an analysis of the abundances of He, C, and N in 210 He-rich hot subdwarfs observed within both the Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3) and LAMOST DR7 data sets.

Constraining Roche-Lobe Overflow Models Using the Hot-Subdwarf Wide Binary Population

open access: goldOpen Astronomy, 2017
One of the important issues regarding the final evolution of stars is the impact of binarity. A rich zoo of peculiar, evolved objects are born from the interaction between the loosely bound envelope of a giant, and the gravitational pull of a companion ...

Classification of LAMOST spectra of B-type and hot subdwarf stars using kernel support vector machine [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Machine learning has emerged as a leading field in artificial intelligence, demonstrating expert-level performance in various domains. Astronomy has benefited from machine learning techniques, particularly in classifying and identifying stars based on ...

Hot subdwarf stars and their connection to thermonuclear supernovae [PDF]

open access: diamond, 2016
Hot subdwarf stars (sdO/Bs) are evolved core helium-burning stars with very thin hydrogen envelopes, which can be formed by common envelope ejection. Close sdB binaries with massive white dwarf (WD) companions are potential progenitors of thermonuclear ...

Exploring the Extremes: Characterizing a New Population of Old and Cold Brown Dwarfs

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Mapping out the populations of thick disk and halo brown dwarfs is important for understanding the metallicity dependence of low-temperature atmospheres and the substellar mass function.

Asteroseismic Observations of Hot Subdwarfs

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
There are a number of reasons for studying hot subdwarf pulsation; the most obvious being that these stars remain a poorly understood late-stage of stellar evolution and knowledge of their interior structure, which pulsation studies reveal, constrains ...

Meet the family − the catalog of known hot subdwarf stars

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2017
In preparation for the upcoming all-sky data releases of the Gaia mission, we compiled a catalog of known hot subdwarf stars and candidates drawn from the literature and yet unpublished databases.

Hot Subdwarf Stars Identified in LAMOST DR8 with Single-lined and Composite Spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
A total of 222 hot subdwarf stars were identified with LAMOST DR8 spectra, among which 131 stars show composite spectra and have been decomposed, while 91 stars present single-lined spectra.
