A hot subdwarf–white dwarf super-Chandrasekhar candidate supernova Ia progenitor

Nature Astronomy, 2021
Supernovae Ia are bright explosive events that can be used to estimate cosmological distances, allowing us to study the expansion of the Universe.

Advanced classification of hot subdwarf binaries using artificial intelligence techniques and Gaia DR3 data

Astronomy & Astrophysics
Hot subdwarf stars are compact blue evolved objects, burning helium in their cores surrounded by a tiny hydrogen envelope. In the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram they are located by the blue end of the Horizontal Branch.

A possible CH subdwarf

Nature, 1982
CH giants, with Mv around −1 to 0.5 (refs 1,2), are stars which have the following well-known properties: (1) weak lines of iron-group elements2, (2) rich in carbon, exceptionally strong features of CH, moderately strong (depending on the surface temperature) C2 and CN (refs 1,2), (3) relatively strong lines of the s-process elements (especially Sr and

The Subdwarf Database

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2004
An interactive database interface to the subdwarf catalogue has been designed and prototyped. The implementation is still under development, but is already fully functional. More than 2300 stars from an updated edition of the subdwarf catalogue have been loaded into the database, and additional photometric data from many other sources have been ...

Hot Subdwarfs in Precataclysmic Binaries

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2006
We present a brief review of the recent results in modeling physical processes in strongly irradiated atmospheres of unevolved companions in precataclysmic binary systems (PCB) and their light curves. Constraints on physical parameters of the hot sdws primaries, thermal instability in upper irradiated atmosphere, monochromatic albedos, the deficit of ...

The properties of subdwarfs

Symposium - International Astronomical Union, 1966
The photometric programmes at the Cape Observatory and the parallel spectroscopic programmes undertaken by Cape staff at the Radcliffe Observatory, Pretoria, have enabled us to produce considerable quantities of southern star data. Some of this has been published in the seriesFundamental Data for Southern Starsof which No. 5 has just appeared. Included

Subdwarf B–Stars and Binarity

1993
Spectroscopic and photometric data give evidence for a large fraction of binary stars among hot subdwarfs. Since our work aims at determining atmospheric parameters and distances of sdB and sdOB stars, we have to take special care of this aspect. We try to deconvolve the photometric data and derive colours for the subdwarf component of the binary.
