A New Sample of Cool Subdwarfs from SDSS: Properties and Kinematics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a new sample of M subdwarfs compiled from the 7th data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. With 3517 new subdwarfs, this new sample significantly increases the number of spectroscopically confirmed low-mass subdwarfs.

New Cold Subdwarf Discoveries from Backyard Worlds and a Metallicity Classification System for T Subdwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the results of a spectroscopic survey of candidate T subdwarfs identified by the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 program. Near-infrared spectra of 31 sources with red J  − W2 colors and large J -band reduced proper motions show varying signatures of ...

Microscopic diffusion and subdwarfs

open access: yes, 1999
The recent distance determinations by HIPPARCOS have allowed to locate very precisely a reasonable set of subdwarfs in the HR diagram. A detailed comparison with evolutionary models is now possible and it has been recently claimed that the observed lower part of the main-sequence is cooler than the computed one.

The hot subdwarfs revisited

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1982
The properties and evolutionary status of the hot B and O subdwarfs are reinvestigated using recent homogeneous grids of hot, high-gravity model atmospheres and detailed convective envelope calculations appropriate to the hot subdwarf region of the H-R diagram discussed by Greenstein and Sargent.

Astroserver – Research Services in the Stellar Webshop

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2017
A quick look at research and development in astronomy shows that we live in exciting times. Exoplanetary systems, supernovae, and merging binary black holes were far out of reach for observers two decades ago and now such phenomena are recorded routinely.

Discovery of 118 New Ultracool Dwarf Candidates Using Machine-learning Techniques

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the discovery of 118 new ultracool dwarf candidates, discovered using a new machine-learning tool, named SMDET , applied to time-series images from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer.

Summary of Eighth Meeting on Hot Subdwarfs and Related Objects

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2017
Subjects discussed during the Eighth Meeting on Hot Subdwarfs and Related Objects are summarised. In particular, a succinct presentation is given of challenges to stellar evolution arising from recent observations.

SSSPM J1444-2019: an extremely high proper motion, ultracool subdwarf

open access: yes, 2004
We present the discovery of a new extreme high proper motion object (3.5 arcsec/year) which we classify as an ultracool subdwarf with [M/H] = -0.5. It has a formal spectral type of sdM9 but also shows L-type features: while the VO bands are completely ...
