Typification of three iconic and widely distributed species of Muscari (Asparagaceae)

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Many species of Muscari, a genus of Mediterranean geophytes, are plagued by intricate nomenclatural issues, which is characteristic for plants with an extensive horticultural history. Here we typify the names currently applied to three widely distributed and cultivated species: M. armeniacum, M. commutatum, and M. tenuiflorum.

Neglecting non‐vascular plants leads to underestimation of grassland plant diversity loss under experimental nutrient addition

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
In nine grassland sites in Europe and North America, nutrient addition caused a larger relative decline in non‐vascular plant (NVP) than vascular plant species richness. Hence, not accounting for NVPs can lead to underestimation of losses in plant diversity in response to continued nutrient pollution of grasslands.

What are the consequences of water stress on the development of late postzygotic reproductive isolation in an orchid hybrid zone?

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
Hybrids vulnerable to drought may increase postzygotic isolation in hybrid zones. Drought experiments can reveal the influence of climate change on hybrid zones. Crassulacean acid metabolism in parental species and hybrids was negatively affected by drought.
