Subgingival Curettage in Periodontal Therapy

In a joint clinical and histological research, carried out in humans of both sexes, it was attempted to establish some of the differences between the effects of curettage and root planing as procedures to accomplish remission of gingival inflammation. In 10 patients, 210 teeth were treated (103 curetted and 98 root planed).

One of the definitions given by the authors considers indication and aim in a general form. This 14-year longitudinal case study involved the treatment of localized juvenile periodontitis in a male patient commencing at 15 years of age, by scaling and root planing, systemic metronidazole, and subgingival curettage along with supervised maintenance. No other surgery was required.
