Role of Gmelinoides fasciatus (Crustacea: Amphipoda) in Macrozoobenthos on the Littoral of Lake Onego During the Subglacial Period [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stress Physiology & Biochemistry, 2023
Macrozoobenthos of the littoral of Lake Onego is represented by 22 units of different taxonomic rank. The invasive species Gmelinoides fasciatus (Stebbing 1899) (CRUSTACEA: AMPHIPODA) plays a dominant role by biomass in the littoral macrozoobenthos ...

Bed Topography and Subglacial Conditions of Denman Glacier, East Antarctica: Insights From Magnetotelluric Data and Interdisciplinary Studies

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Understanding the basal conditions of East Antarctica's outlet glaciers is critical for accurately modeling future ice‐sheet evolution. Denman Glacier, one of the continent's fastest‐flowing glaciers, has been identified in bed‐topography models as occupying the deepest continental trough on Earth, potentially acting as a major outlet of the ...

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AND ENVIRONMENT MONITORING ISSUES IN THE PROJECTS OF SUBGLACIAL LAKES STUDIES IN ANTARCTICA

open access: yesЛëд и снег, 2015
Antarctic subglacial lakes can represent extreme natural habitats for microorganisms from the position of their evolution and adaptation, as well as they can contain the information on Antarctic ice sheet history and climatic changes in their sediments ...

Historical Records of Nutrient Loading Into End‐Member Mid‐Latitude Lakes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Human‐induced environmental changes impact lakes in temperate regions, but detailed lake basin histories that pre‐date instrumental records are limited. Most paleolimnological reconstructions are used to examine single lakes in isolation, making it difficult to separate regional forcings from morphological influences on a sedimentary signal ...

Flow‐pattern evolution of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet indicated by the subglacial lineation record over Norway, Sweden and Finland

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 55, Issue 3, Page 612-669, July 2026.
We present a 25‐stage reconstruction of the ice‐flow pattern evolution of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet based on mapping and analysis of ~240 000 subglacial lineations and lineation fields across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and parts of NW Russia. Our reconstruction uses a glacial geomorphological inversion approach, in which we generated 611 individual ...

Prospects of obtaining samples of bottom sediments from subglacial lake Vostok

open access: yesЗаписки Горного института, 2017
The paper proves the timeliness of obtaining and examining bottom sediments from subglacial Lake Vostok. Predictive geological section of Lake Vostok and information value of bottom sediments have been examined.

Subglacial lakes and jökulhlaups in Iceland

open access: yesGlobal and Planetary Change, 2003
Active volcanoes and hydrothermal systems underlie ice caps in Iceland. Glacier-volcano interactions produce meltwater that either drains toward the glacier margin or accumulates in subglacial lakes. Accumulated meltwater drains periodically in jokulhlaups from the subglacial lakes and occasionally during volcanic eruptions.

Deep clustering in subglacial radar reflectance reveals subglacial lakes

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
Abstract. Ice-penetrating radar (IPR) imaging is a valuable tool for observing the internal structure and bottom of ice sheets. Subglacial water bodies, also known as subglacial lakes, generally appear as distinct, bright, flat, and continuous reflections in IPR images. In this study, we use available IPR images from the Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains
