Subglacial sediments: A regional geological template for ice flow in West Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2001
We use aerogeophysical data to estimate the distribution of marine subglacial sediments and fault“bounded sedimentary basins beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS).

Methanogenesis in subglacial sediments

Environmental Microbiology Reports, 2010
Summary Methanogenic archaea have a unique role in Earth's global carbon cycle as producers of the greenhouse gas methane (CH 4 ). However, despite the fact that ice covers 11% of Earth's continental landmass, evidence for methanogenic activity in subglacial environments has

Sedimentation in a Permian subglacial channel

Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1981
Abstract An unusual sediment accumulation in the glaciogene Permian near Bacchus Marsh, Victoria is interpreted as representing the development and infilling of a subglacial channel. This polymictic conglomerate has a thickness of more than 50 m and rests within glacial and periglacial Permian strata.

Microstructures of sediment flow deposits and subglacial sediments: a comparison

Boreas, 2001
Microstructural analysis of glacial deposits has recently been used as a research tool to determine sediment genesis. However, the occurrence of microstructures in deposits of known origin has not been sufficiently documented, hindering our ability to confidently interpret microstructures in sediments of unknown origin.

Organic Remains in Finnish Subglacial Sediments

Quaternary Research, 1995
AbstractMany sites in Fennoscandia contain pre-Late Weichselian beds of organic matter, located mostly in the flanks of eskers. It is a matter of debate whether these fragmentary beds were deposited in situ, or whether they were deposited elsewhere and then picked up and moved by glacial ice.

Subglacial processes, sediments and landforms—an introduction

Sedimentary Geology, 1994
This introduction provides an overview of research presented at the Symposium on Subglacial Processes, Sediments and Landforms held at the University of Ulster, July 1992. Particular attention is focused on new developments in understanding the subglacial environment and elaboration of current controversies concerning the formation of subglacial ...

Sedimentation in a subglacial lake, Enniskerry, eastern Ireland

Sedimentary Geology, 1994
Abstract Field relationships between a subglacial lake fill from the Enniskerry basin, eastern Ireland, provide evidence for dynamic links between the sedimentary fill, regional subglacial meltwater flow and regional ice dynamics. The basin fill (6–7 km2) forms an integral part of an extensive (30 km) subglacial meltwater system which developed ...
