Finite index subgroups of conjugacy separable groups

Forum Mathematicum, 2009
A group \(G\) is conjugacy separable if whenever \(x\) and \(y\) are non-conjugate elements of \(G\), there exists some finite quotient of \(G\) in which the images of \(x\) and \(y\) are non-conjugate. The conjugacy separability of a finite index subgroup of a conjugacy separable group was not clear.

On Finite Index Subgroups of Linear Groups

Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society, 1987
Let F be a field of characteristic different from 2 and 3 and \(\Gamma\) a finitely generated subgroup of \(GL_ n(G)\). Then: (a) If \(\Gamma\) is not solvable by finite then for every prime p, the p-Sylow subgroup of \({\hat \Gamma}\), the pro-finite completion of \(\Gamma\), is infinitely generated.

THE NORMAL INDEX OF SUBGROUPS IN FINITE GROUPS

Asian-European Journal of Mathematics, 2010
In this paper, we shall generalize the concept of the normal index and obtain the characterizations for a finite group to be solvable, p-solvable, p-nilpotent and supersolvable.

Subgroups of Finite Index in Free Groups

Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1949
This paper has as its chief aim the establishment of two formulae associated with subgroups of finite index in free groups. The first of these (Theorem 3.1) gives an expression for the total length of the free generators of a subgroup U of the free group Fr with r generators.

Counting free subgroups of finite index

Archiv der Mathematik, 1992
Let \(G\) be a finitely generated (infinite) virtually free group and denote by \(m_ G\) the least common multiple of the orders of the finite subgroups in \(G\). The author continues the investigation of the function \(b_ G : N \to N\), where \(b_ G (\lambda)\) is the number of free subgroups of index \(\lambda m_ G\) in \(G\). An asymptotic expansion

Groups with noncyclic subgroups of finite index

Ukrainian Mathematical Journal, 1984
The authors give a detailed description of the structure of locally almost soluble groups in which every non-cyclic subgroup is of finite index. They show that such a group must be one of ten types, each itself very simple to describe.
