The MeSH heading “Call Center” is due for an update: why we recommend the more precise heading “Emergency Medical Communication Center”

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, 2023
Call centers can be found in various industries. However as a Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) the term “Call centers” does not reflect the critical purpose of handling emergency calls.

Ranking Medical Subject Headings using a factor graph model. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Automatically assigning MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) to articles is an active research topic. Recent work demonstrated the feasibility of improving the existing automated Medical Text Indexer (MTI) system, developed at the National Library of Medicine

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Subject Headings

open access: yesTCB: Technical Services in Religion & Theology
Chapter 5 addresses biases that exist in subject headings, with a focus on Library of Congress Subject Headings, and ways to mitigate them. Case studies examine two strategies: changing existing headings through the Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO) and adding alternative headings to exiting library metadata. The chapter also includes a list

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
