Reflex modulation during rhythmic limb movements in humans

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2012
For many locomotor behaviors, such as walking or running, we count on subliminal somatosensory information to smoothly maintain on-going movement and avoid falling down when disturbances are presented to the stability of the body.

Changes in guessing habits as a function of subliminal stimulation

open access: yesActa Psychologica, 1964
Abstract In an investigation of discrimination without awareness a measure was taken of the effect of a subliminal visual stimulus upon number guessing habits. The findings suggest that below the awareness threshold there is a significant tendency for the subject to give responses that are meaningfully related to the stimulus.

Priming Need–Frustrating Memories Sparks Conspiracy Beliefs: A Self‐Determination Theory Perspective

open access: yesJournal of Personality, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 703-719, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Memories shape perceptions and decisions in uncertain situations through their encoded levels of autonomy, competence, and relatedness satisfaction or frustration. This research investigated their predictive value on COVID‐19 conspiracy theories endorsement, when triggered by freedom‐restrictive contexts.

Decreased visual detection during subliminal stimulation

open access: yesJournal of Vision, 2014
What is the perceptual fate of invisible stimuli-are they processed at all and does their processing have consequences for the perception of other stimuli? As has been shown previously in the somatosensory system, even stimuli that are too weak to be consciously detected can influence our perception: Subliminal stimulation impairs perception of near ...

Deflating and Debunking: A Case for Hard‐Line Structuralism

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, Volume 113, Issue 1, Page 169-181, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Can manipulated agents be morally responsible for what they do? According to hard‐line structuralism, yes. On this view, manipulated agents are responsible in virtue of satisfying the relevant structural conditions taken to be sufficient for responsibility.

A method of compensating for the excitability of spinal motoneurones when estimating the magnitude of potentials evoked in skeletal muscles

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 14, Page 5731-5757, 15 July 2026.
Abstract figure legend There is positive covariation in the amplitudes of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) in skeletal muscles generated by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) of the motor cortex and in fluctuations in the excitability of spinal motoneurones – as indexed by electromyography (EMG), in the period (e.g. 100 ms) immediately preceding the

Effectiveness of subliminal audio messages on depression and anxiety in women with hypertension: a quasi-experimental study

open access: yesSocial Determinants of Health
Background: Subliminal messages (auditory sub-threshold stimuli) are hidden messages embedded within musical notes that the conscious mind cannot perceive. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of subliminal audio in reducing depression

Welcome to the Anthropozine! DIY Booklets as an Alternative to the Peer‐Reviewed Publication

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 2, Page 416-423, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Peer‐reviewed publications remain the most accepted form of knowledge production and distribution in academia today. But such formal publications are often deeply exclusionary, especially for undergraduate and early graduate students as well as scholars tackling highly stigmatized subjects.

The temporal dynamics of early visual cortex involvement in behavioral priming.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) allows for non-invasive interference with ongoing neural processing. Applied in a chronometric design over early visual cortex (EVC), TMS has proved valuable in indicating at which particular time point EVC must ...
