Ranula and the Sublingual Salivary Glands
Archives of Otolaryngology, 1977The term "ranula" is poorly understood and is frequently applied to a variety of cystic structures in the head and neck. Ranulas classically are cysts of salivary gland origin, usually the sublingual glands, of which two varieties are described: a simple, epithelial lined cyst resulting from ductal obstruction, and a pseudocyst without epithelial ...

Ranulas have been managed by various surgical methods, and the optimal treatment is still controversial. The aim of this study was to analyze a group of 124 surgically treated patients with intraoral ranula to assess 3 different methods: sublingual gland removal combined with the ranula excision, conventional marsupialization, and a variant of the ...

Treatment of ranula—excision of the sublingual gland versus marsupialization
Auris Nasus Larynx, 2003The purpose of this work is to estimate optimum surgical treatment of ranula according to the type of the lesion. Ranula and Sarcoid Granuloma of a Sublingual Gland
Auris Nasus Larynx, 1989A case is reported in which the treatment of the ranula consisted of dissection of the cystic wall along with excision of the sublingual gland of origin. The histological picture of the gland was consistent with sarcoidosis. Thereafter, all other examinations were negative for sarcoidosis.

Sublingual-plunging ranula as a complication of supraomohyoid neck dissection
Ranulas are rare cystic lesions resulting from damage or rupture of one or more of the ducts of the sublingual gland, that lead to mucus extravasation or dilatation of the gland's duct. Extravasation cysts are more common than retention cysts. We present a case of a 45-year-old male with a squamous cell carcinoma of the ventral surface of the tongue ...
