The Anatomical Record, 1985AbstractTwenty female young adult rats were injected with tritiated thymidine (3HTdR). The animals were then killed in groups of five, at the following times: 1 hour, and 4, 16, and 23 days. Autoradiograms of sections through the submandibular gland were prepared, and the location of labelled cells in relationship to tubuli and acini was recorded.

Sialolithiasis of submandibular gland
The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 200450-year-old man presented to the Emergency Departent with 3 days of dysphagia and odynophagia. He also eported 1 day of subjective dyspnea when supine. Imunizations were up to date, he had not traveled reently, and he had no sick contacts. Past medical history, ocial history, and family history, as well as review of ymptoms were unremarkable.

A Mucocele of the Submandibular Gland
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1985We encountered an unusual case of a mucocele arising from the submandibular gland. Among the limited number of cystic salivary gland neoplasms reported in the literature, there have been no reports, to our knowledge, of a similar cystic lesion. The unique characteristics of this mass permitted definitive diagnosis by computed tomographic scanning.

Tumors involving the submandibular gland are rare. However, the incidence of malignancy is much higher than in the parotid (approaching 50 percent). In addition, the 5-year survival rate in patients with malignant tumors of the submandibular gland is much poorer in our series--28 percent versus 71.8 percent for the parotid gland.

Depending on the sialolith size and calcification degree, it can be visible in radiographic examinations. Commonly, patients may experience pain and/or edema, when the ducts are obstructed.

Nodular fasciitis of the submandibular gland
BMJ Case Reports, 2022A woman in her 20s presented with a non-tender swelling of the right submandibular gland. Ultrasound was suggestive of pleomorphic adenoma. The histology result of the excised tumour later confirmed a diagnosis of nodular fasciitis which is extremely rare in the submandibular gland. Postoperatively, she has made good recovery.
