TDR Fingerprint on long Land and Submarine Power Cables
TDR (time domain reflectometry) has proven to be a very useful tool for preventive maintenance as well as for fault location. This paper points out the limitations of TDR techniques for very long cables, and illustrates how, with professional expertise ...

Resonant Domain Wall Dynamics in a Three‐Dimensional Magnetic Nano Double Helix
3D magnetic nanostructures promise exciting possibilities for magnetization dynamics. However, experimental realizations remain scarce. In nanoprinted cobalt double helices, time‐resolved X‐ray microscopy reveals harmonic domain wall dynamics. Simulations identify the mode and additional higher‐frequency resonances, revealing a rich dynamic landscape ...

Autonomous Folding of Soft Matter From Living Polymers
Origami structures are endowed with “living” polymer creases that grow, remodel, and stiffen in response to nutrient solutions. This post‐fabrication growth enables autonomous folding, iterative regrowth, and mechanical tuning involving origami assemblies, such as cranes, Miura‐ori tessellations, rigid and non‐rigid square‐twist patterns, establishing ...

Nonlinear hybrid-mode resonant forced oscillations of sagged inclined cables at avoidances [PDF]
We investigate non-linear forced oscillations of sagged inclined cables under planar 1:1 internal resonance at avoidance. To account for frequency avoidance phenomena and associated hybrid modes actually distinguishing inclined cables from horizontal ...

Ion Concentration and Voltage Imaging With Fluorescent Nanodiamonds
We demonstrate reversible switching between the fluorescent NV0 and the dark NV+ state, in sub‐30 nm FNDs via surface oxidation and hydrogenation, respectively. In an electrochemical cell, we show that the fluorescence from hydrogenated particles enables all‐optical imaging of voltages and ion concentrations at the micrometer scale.

Penetration of ship anchors and the influence of submarine cables
Impacts by ship anchors are one of the main reasons for damage to submarine cables. Regulations meet this risk by defining a minimum permanent burial depth of submarine cables.
