New insights into the condensed nature and stratigraphic significance of the Late Neogene Ariki Formation, Taranaki Basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Ariki Formation is a distinctive Late Miocene – Early Pliocene marl facies rich in planktic foraminifera, reaching thicknesses in the range 70 - 109 m in most exploration holes drilled into the Western Platform northwest of Taranaki Peninsula.

Effect of Seismicity and Tectonic‐Glacial Interactions on Submarine Megaslides

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Enhanced sedimentation at glacial margins can produce submarine megaslides (>10,000 km3). We report a single megaslide in the Surveyor Fan, Gulf of Alaska. Minimum extant size is ∼16,124 km2 in area and ∼9,080 km3 in volume.

Morphometric fingerprints and downslope evolution in bathymetric surveys: insights into morphodynamics of the Congo canyon-channel

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Submarine canyons and channels are globally important pathways for sediment, organic carbon, nutrients and pollutants to the deep sea, and they form the largest sediment accumulations on Earth.

The Lillehammer Submarine Fan Complex

open access: yes, 2006
Abstract The Lillehammer Submarine Fan Complex is a mixed mud/sand rich turbidite fan system. The fan complex was deposited in the Neoproterozoic Hedmark rift basin from west towards east extending at least 50 km from the basin margin. A detailed sedimentary study of outcrops in the Lillehammer area is performed with the aim of analyzing the ...

Is it appropriate to model turbidity currents with the three-equation model?

open access: yes, 2015
The three-equation model (TEM) was developed in the 1980s to model turbidity currents (TCs) and has been widely used ever since. However, its physical justification was questioned because self-accelerating TCs simulated with the steady TEM seemed to ...

Large‐Area 2D Metasurface‐Based Triboelectric E‐Skin Arrays: Contact & Proximity Tactile Mapping with Broadband Acoustic Readouts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface‐engineered NC‐TENG arrays integrate tactile pressure mapping, non‐contact gesture sensing, and acoustic signal readouts in one ultrathin module, and outperforms pristine PDMS in terms of electrical output and real‐time spatial mapping for next‐gen wearables.
