Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Quantification of the bed‐scale architecture of submarine depositional environments

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, 2019
Submarine channel and fan deposits form the largest sediment accumulations on Earth and host significant reservoirs for hydrocarbons. While many studies of ancient fan deposits describe architectural variability along 2D transects (e.g.

Thermally Significant Fluid Seepage Through Thick Sediment on the Juan de Fuca Plate Entering the Cascadia Subduction Zone

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2023
We use heat flux measurements colocated with seismic reflection profiles over a buried basement high on the Juan de Fuca plate ∼25 km seaward of the deformation front offshore Oregon to test for the presence of hydrothermal circulation in the oceanic ...

Erosion and deposition in interplain channels of the Maury channel system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Large turbidity currents originating on the insular margin of southern lceland have flowed clown a 2 500 km-long pathway comprising rise valleys, unchanneled plains and segments of erosional and depositional deep-sea channels that are collectively called

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Reservoir potential of the Haymana Formation submarine-fan sandstones in the Haymana Basin of Turkey

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, 2019
Sedimentological and petrographic studies of the Haymana Formation sandstones identify a submarine fan in the Haymana Basin. This study is confined to outcrop samples from the submarine-fan sandstones (the L1, L2, and L3 sections) and focuses on ...

Precursor Mineral Phases of Forming Mollusk Shell Nacre: A Study of Hydrated Samples

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mineral, organic phase, and water are the essential components in mollusk shell nacre formation. Their interplay is not well understood, because the hydrated material is difficult to observe at high resolution, under close to native conditions. Forming nacre is studied using environmental and cryo‐electron microscopy and hydrated ACC phases, together ...

Submarine lobe deposits of the Point Loma Formation, California: Quantifying event‐bed architecture and lateral heterogeneity

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, 2021
Over the last several years, numerous outcrop localities have been revisited to add quantitative detail to submarine lobe facies models that previously focussed on facies relationships in a qualitative sense.

Neogene stratigraphic architecture and tectonic evolution of Wanganui, King Country, and eastern Taranaki Basins, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Analysis of the stratigraphic architecture of the fills of Wanganui, King Country, and eastern Taranaki Basins reveals the occurrence of five 2nd order Late Paleocene and Neogene sequences of tectonic origin.
