Simulation of Submarine Landslides by Cellular Automata Methodology

2013
A new model (named SCIDDICA-SS2), which is based on the Macroscopic Cellular Automata computational paradigm, has been specifically designed for the simula- tion of coastal and underwater landslides. SCIDDICA-SS2 is a fully 3D model based on the equivalent fluid approach.

Submarine landslide geomorphology, US continental slope

Marine Geology, 2000
Abstract The morphometric analysis of submarine landslides in four distinctly different tectonic environments on the continental slopes of Oregon, central California, Texas, and New Jersey provides useful insight into submarine process, including sediment transport mechanisms and slope stability. Using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, we

Characteristics of Several Tsunamigenic Submarine Landslides

2003
Submarine landslides are becoming recognized as a potential source of damaging local tsunamis. However, there are presently few documented case studies of landslide events that have caused historic tsunamis or likely caused prehistoric tsunamis. We present three case studies of submarine landslide environments off the west coast of the United States ...

Tsunamis Generated by Submarine Landslides

2011
Submarine landslides can generate tsunamis and cause coastal hazard. Because the horizontal scale of submarine landslide is comparable to water depth and much smaller than the scale of earthquake fault area, the tsunami characteristics is very different from earthquake-generated tsunami which is usually approximated as a shallow-water wave.

Submarine Landslide Optimization Algorithm

Submarine landslides are a typical geodynamic process, the mechanism of which involves complex factors such as sediment gravity drive, frictional resistance, sediment interlayer rearrangement, and local fragmentation and reorganization. Inspired by the physical mechanisms of submarine landslides, this paper proposes a novel heuristic optimization ...

Calculations of Tsunamis from Submarine Landslides

2010
Great underwater landslides like Storegga off the Norwegian coast leave massive deposits on the seafloor and probably produce enormous tsunamis. We have performed a numerical study of such landslides using the multi-material compressible hydrocode Sage in order to understand the relationship between the rheology of the slide material, the configuration
