Line pipe with a submerged-arc-welded seam was first made in 1930 at the Christy Park Works of National Tube Co.(6-1) The Christy Park process involved forming flat plates into “cans” in a set of presses. The edges of the cans were then joined by a single pass (multi-welder) submerged-arc weld made from the outside surface onto a backing shoe located ...

Submerged Arc Welding × 100 Pipeline Steels
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2014100 Pipeline Steels are welded by United States Lincoln double-wire welding machine. The welded joints have good weld formation and high welding quality, with no pore and crack inside. The tensile strength of the welded joint gets to 805 MPa, about 94.71%of that of the parent metal.

Metal transfer in submerged arc welding
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2017Abstract The movement of molten metal at the wire end in submerged arc welding (SAW) was filmed by a high-speed video camera through a preset tunnel, the welding electric signal was acquired simultaneously. A physical modeling experiment was carried out to simulate the metal transfer in SAW. Welding electric signal shows that the stability of welding

Optimization of hardness of weld in submerged arc welding
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020Abstract If a high quality of welding joint in thick metal is required, submerged arc welding process is preferably used. There are several welding input process parameters which influence the quality of the weld. Some important input process parameters in the case of submerged arc welding process are welding current, welding voltage, wire feed and ...

Thermal model of submerged arc welding
Materials Science and Technology, 1992AbstractA model for calculating the temperature field in submerged arc welding is presented. The algorithm is based on the method of elementary balances. Melting of the electrode rod and melting of the parent material followed by solidification of the pool of molten metal are considered. The calculated temperature evolution curves are compared with the

Abstract Submerged arc welding (SAW) is an arc welding process in which the arc is concealed by a blanket of granular and fusible flux. This article provides a schematic illustration of a typical setup for automatic SAW and discusses the advantages and limitations and the process applications of SAW.
