Radiometric Constraints on the Timing, Tempo, and Effects of Large Igneous Province Emplacement

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 27-82., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

A Review of the Use of Chemical Stabilisation Methods for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesBattery Energy, EarlyView.
The review reveals that while chemical stabilisation techniques for recycling EOL LIBs are widely used, many studies overlook safety risks, focusing on quick, low‐cost methods. Only a few studies address the associated hazards, highlighting the need for safer, well‐understood stabilisation processes in battery recycling. ABSTRACT The increasing amounts

Thermodynamic Constraints and Prospects for Intensified Steel Deoxidation

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The article provides a short survey of steel deoxidation and considers how to increase its efficacy. Bringing a specially tailored, powdered slag into the reaction site can directly bind the deoxidation product oxides, resulting in lower dissolved oxygen activity, total oxygen content, and cleaner steel.

Performance of historical ferrocement specimens subjected to corrosive environments

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Ferrocement is a type of thin wall‐reinforced concrete composed of hydraulic cement mortar reinforced with several layers of steel wire mesh. The material is used as a low‐cost construction and retrofit solution and allows the creation of very thin elements.

Multiwire submerged arc welding of steel structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The assembly of large structures made out of thick steel plates requires a welding process by which multiple wires can be used simultaneously. To reproduce these industrial processes in a research environment, OCAS has invested in a multiwire submerged ...

Nitridogermanates(IV): The Germanide Oxide Sr15Ge[GeN4]3O, the Carbodiimide Ba5[GeN4][CN2] and the Oxidonitridogermanate Sr6[Ge2N6O]

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Accepted Article.
We have encountered various novel compounds by serendipity, due to small oxygen or carbon impurities, during our explorative studies to explore the crystal chemistry of multinary germanium nitrides and nitridogermanates. With oxygen in a closed reaction container both the germanide nitridogermanate(IV) oxide Sr15Ge[GeN4]3O and the ...

Submerged arc welding of heavy plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
The submerged arc process is particularly suitable for heavy plate welding because of its ability to combine very high deposit rates along with excellent quality. It does these things without the smoke and spatter often accompanying other processes.

A Statistical Review of Hydrogen Effects on the Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Steel

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study conducts a statistical re‐analysis of experimental data from the literature to assess the influence of hydrogen on key mechanical properties, including the medium‐/high‐cycle fatigue strength and the threshold value of the stress intensity factor range.

Cost evaluation and life cycle assessment of thick plates using SAW and GMAW [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
With the ever-growing demand for steel structures and the rise in environmental awareness, industries are moving towards more sustainable means of producing steel structures, which entails the use of high strength steel instead of mild steel and more ...

Microstructural and Corrosion Properties of Cold Rolled Laser Welded UNS S32750 Duplex Stainless Steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The main goal of this work was to study the effect of plastic deformation on weldability of duplex stainless steel (DSS). It is well known that plastic deformation prior to thermal cycles can enhance secondary phase precipitation in DSS which can lead to
