Thermodynamic Constraints and Prospects for Intensified Steel Deoxidation
The article provides a short survey of steel deoxidation and considers how to increase its efficacy. Bringing a specially tailored, powdered slag into the reaction site can directly bind the deoxidation product oxides, resulting in lower dissolved oxygen activity, total oxygen content, and cleaner steel.

Performance of historical ferrocement specimens subjected to corrosive environments
Abstract Ferrocement is a type of thin wall‐reinforced concrete composed of hydraulic cement mortar reinforced with several layers of steel wire mesh. The material is used as a low‐cost construction and retrofit solution and allows the creation of very thin elements.

Crystallographic effects on transgranular chloride-induced stress corrosion crack propagation of arc welded austenitic stainless steel [PDF]
The effect of crystallography on transgranular chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (TGCISCC) of arc welded 304L austenitic stainless steel is studied on >300 grains along crack paths. Schmid and Taylor factor mismatches across grain boundaries (GBs) reveal that cracks propagate either from a hard to soft grain, which can be explained merely by ...

Path Planning with Automatic Seam Extraction over Point Cloud Models for Robotic Arc Welding [PDF]
This paper presents a point cloud based robotic system for arc welding. Using hand gesture controls, the system scans partial point cloud views of workpiece and reconstructs them into a complete 3D model by a linear iterative closest point algorithm. Then, a bilateral filter is extended to denoise the workpiece model and preserve important geometrical ...

Schramm Loewner Evolution and Liouville Quantum Gravity [PDF]
We conformally weld (via "quantum zipping") two boundary arcs of a Liouville quantum gravity random surface to generate a random curve called the Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE). We develop a theory of quantum fractal measures (consistent with the Knizhnik-Polyakov-Zamolochikov relation) and analyze their evolution under welding via SLE martingales. As

Size-selected polyynes synthesized by submerged arc discharge in water [PDF]
Polyynes are linear sp-carbon chains of finite length consisting in a sequence of alternated single and triple bonds and displaying appealing optical and electronic properties. A simple, low cost and scalable production technique for polyynes is the submerged arc discharge (SAD) in liquid, which so far, has been mainly exploited in organic solvents. In
